Seniority: Who's word do we value? |

I think seniority [known as being a vet rolleyes ] is a big problem in a many guilds. I've been part of a few guilds, that crashed because everyone thought they were really important and deserved more. It wasn't fun anymore. For example, I'll use a roleplaying guild as an example.
The way to get respect in a RP guild is from a few main ways. The main way would be joining a guild early on, and proving yourself. I'm personally not a fan of this system. For example, if you joined the guild later, it's almost impossible to make yourself get respect, except if you have friends in the higher ups. Who's more important? I personally think that the starters of the guild deserve some respect. They should have a bigger say about changes to the guild, due to the fact that it may have happened in the past, and failed.
Rankings maybe?
1. Vet who roleplays well 2. Vet 3. Roleplays well 4. Roleplays moderately well + Wit 5. Wit 6. Roleplays horribly 7. Egotistical Maniac 8. n00b
It's a rough approximation.
I find myself a bit inclined to favor the "vet" at times, due to the fact that most new comers are fairly arrogant, and not really that great. That was really how I was when I first joined HV. Eventually, after some cutting down of naive ego, I got some respect, and some friends. I left for a while. Going back, I've been a bit ignored by the vets, and "teamed" on in a way. It's how it works. Leave, and lose the respect.
I'm really not great at roleplaying. I'm horrible at fighting, due to the fact that I'm not really that talented at tactical planning in a short amount of time. By doing horrible roleplaying and getting quite a bit better, [I used to be worse] I got respect as well. From personal experience, I left HV because this was getting way too out of hand. It's not really a said thing, as much as a more felt thing. For example, people respect Silk more than myself. And I'm okay with that. Cause I respect him and hold him higher as well.
The pros? I think it keeps order. If reasonably held, this branched system would basically hold members accountable to prove themselves. But there are definately more cons. Due to this "demand", they eventually get a little respect, and ego takes over. It's human. I think we need some type of this system, but everyone's voice should be heard, provided they say something reasonable and fairly positive. It's a system, that I will be thinking about.
