Well, we've had another Christmas visit us. Personally, I assumed my Christmas was going to be shitty as hell. But, it wasn't. In fact, it was pretty decent. You see, Christmas of 2000 sparked the downfall of the whole "holiday spirit" for the Carey family. (Yes, my last name is Carey) Tension between my parents began killing the whole happy family vibe we had prior to 2000. 2001, it got worse. Got worse in 2002, and sometime in 2003, my parents finally divorced. Christmas was more "dee dee dee" than ever before... well, ALL holidays, really. Anyway, I was pretty much expected things to be crappy, but it turned out ok. I could care less about receiving gifts. We all know the saying that, "It's better to give than to receive." And while we "know" that, most still can't help but enjoy receiving MORE than giving. Not saying it's a bad thing, or anything. I was like that too, and didn't noticed that I had changed this year until I began thinking of giving presents to others for the FIRST time.
You see, I have a new job now. A good one. Paid vacation, health benefits, etc... So this time around, I was strangely MORE focused on what I wanted to get everyone else, and somehow forgot about what I wanted. As Christmas approached, people began asking me what I wanted, and I could honestly say that I wanted nothing. True, I DO want things, but not for Christmas. The things I want are things that I want to get MYSELF. It felt nice to be able to provide for other people for once. Giving is only better to receive when you're the type to want to make sure everyone else is happy before you think about your own happiness. I learned that this year, and learn that that's the type of person I grew up to be.
Anyway, New Year is coming. Today(Thurday) is my last day of work this week, and I don't have to be back until Tuesday. ^_^ I have no resolutions this time around. Just to keep up what I've been doing, but more effectively.
