They were headed to the academy. An actual academy with textbooks and homework. No kunais involved. A sad life for a ninja....
"Tell me again why we're going to the dumb Academy" replied Karima irritably. "And walking! Why couldn't we take the bus?. The Academy doesn't have anything. And skirts! This uniform is so not me!" She ambled on.
Arika sighed. She wondered how Karima ever became her friend. They were complete opposites.
They arrived at the school. It looked the same as any other school. White walls, a gate.
"I can't believe people actually go to schools like this." Karima mumbled.
The Start of Class
As Arika and Karima entered the classroom, many people turned and stared. The school wasn't expecting new students at this time of year. Who were these girls? Foreigners? Fugitives? Outlaws?
The two ninjas stood at the back of the room. Arika stood quietly and took in the surroundings,as she was trained to do, while Karima stared at the ceiling. Little did Karima know what they were really there for.
I feel so bad having to keep secrets from Karima. She's always been there for me, thought Arika. But Takiro-sama instructed me not to tell her. I can't believe it. Why here, at the academy?
The bell rang, the teacher came in, and gave Arika and Karima their seats...right next to each other, and right next to the door and windows...
Perfect, Rika thought
Just before the teacher started her lecture, Arika had a thought. If Karima didn't know the mission, she should at least be ready for it.
"Stay alert" was all Rika whispered.
Two hours later, it was time for break. Class was boring, different from the Ninja Institute. At least the Institute had hands-on learning (which often resulted in a broken bone or two) The two tried to have a conversation...but they didn't have a topic. Even Karima was too bored out of her wits to complain...
All of a sudden, they saw a small black bird fly toward them. Arika removed the note from its leg and it took off again. On the tiny scroll was a small stamp, the seal of the Hokage.
"What's the note say?" Karima asked curiously.
Oh no...If I read this note, it might contain something about the mission...What do I do? Arika looked around as if searching for help.
Almost like an answer, a face suddenly appeared. It was a girl with large smile and pink hair. She seemed very happy and child-like. What was most unusual were her large, pink eyes.
"You guys the new kids? Yes? I love new kids!!!! Welcome to the Academy. I just came here a couple months ago, but its really nice! Want me to show you around?" the girl asked. "Oh,I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Kyoto! I have some ice cream.Want some?"
The girl smiled and pulled out some popsicles. All Arika and Karima did was stare in astonishment. Where did this Kyoto some from?
"There you are Kyoto! Why are you always running off? Not everyone wants to be your friend, believe it or not." a voice called out.
Another student came running toward them. There was an annoyed look on her face,Kyoto had probably done this several times.
"I'm sorry Hikuta" Kyoto said as she stared guiltily at the ground. "I didn't mean to disturb anyone."
Though Kyoto acted as though she was sorry, Arika could see a playful twinkle in her eyes. Hikuta continued to lecture Kyoto, though the lecture seemed rehearsed...or maybe she had just done it a lot.
"You know Hikuta," Kyoto started slowly, looking up with a smile. "Your lectures are really boring."
She innocently smiled and held out a popsicle to her friend. With a scowl, Hikuta took it and began to lick on it eagerly.
