Legends that at the top of the gigantic tree in Lagaard, her hometown, was a great discovery waiting to be made. She, along with her childhood friends and her sister, decided to climb the tree, known as Yggsdrasil by the locals. Little did any of them know that what awaited at the top was not a wonderful, marvellous discovery or treasure. It was an eldritch abomination known only as Ur-Child. after a long and hard battle, Ur-Child was killed, saving the world, but at a great cost - all of the explorers save Maya had been killed, and Ur-Childs soul-rending power made it impossible to resurrect them with normal Necromancy or Healing. Maya was announced a heroine, but became unhappy as a result of the death of her Sister and Beloved friends. When she was 16, she packed her bags and left in the middle of the night, vowing not to return to Lagaard until she had saved her Allies. She has almost mastered the art of looking happy despite sadness, but if anyone brings up something that reminds her of her lost friends, her demeanour almost instantly changes to a much darker tone.
