Callum watched as Lyrases’s eyes bulged and as the older angel suddenly stopped in midair. Natael noticed and also turned around and slowed to a halt.
“Is everything alright?” She asked.
“Yes. I just caught the signature to a Water Auron,” Lyrases found that Natael and Callum both stared blankly back at him. “An Auron is an elemental user. There are 8 Aurons total. You 2 should know this already.”
“But we don’t. I’ve never heard that name for them before,” Natael replied. “What we’ve all been told is that they are the people that will get Cruxis off our backs and create Haven.”
“My mother told me that they will also destroy Cruxis. Is that true Lyrases?” Callum asked. Callum looked up to Lyrases. Even though Lyrases was prone to yelling and acting cold, he felt as if Lyrases was a very important friend to him. Callum hated making Lyrases angry and so he always tried to please him.
“There are legends that seem to say that but the Grigori Auron Council are—were—always in constant debate over them. What the old texts do come out and say is that there are 8 Aurons, one for each domain of the universe. The domains are elements that we as Grigori have some control over: water, fire, wind, earth, lightning, darknesse, lighte, and chaos. They must use their crystals—the ones that you, Callum, are carrying — to do anything big with their abilities. They obviously can’t use the crystals of others and can use the gems to somehow communicate with one another. That part we were all still trying to decipher.”
Natael sighed. “So we only have 4 out of 8 gems. Cruxis is undoubtedly going to use them for some purpose of theirs. And with only the 3 of us out there to stop him, this whole campaign seems futile.”
“Don’t be sad!” Callum scolded. “At least we’re actually helping. Who knows if we’re the only Grigori left on Earth? From what we were told all our lives this has been the last Grigori settlement. What happened to the others?”
“Wow, the little golden boy made a point.” Lyrases grinned. Lyrases gave a tiny moan as he began to stand straight up, his wings beating the air steadily to keep him aloft. “Would you like your cookie now, or later?”
“Stop patronizing me!” Callum whined. He let off an exasperated cry. “I try and help and you always shoot me down. One day you two are going to regret doing this to me.”
“Yes, yes now come on! We have an ‘Auron’ to find. We are heading in the right direction right?” Natael asked. She looked to Lyrases and saw his nod. “Then we start again now.” In seconds Natael was flying at least 7 yards ahead of them with her long, thick red tresses streaming behind her. She looked back to see Callum struggling to keep up and Lyrases lagging behind him, clutching his side. She looked straight ahead again and focused on flying. He should have told us he was hurt or something, she thought.
