in the first tankoban of warren elis' planetary,there's a point where a buncha pulp-inspired chara, a real-life inventor&a literary chara are all hanging out together n their mountain hidaway. they have fixed up a computer that can enter hypertime&when it's turned on, another group of people n another mountain hidaway invade&fight them. they r super-powered superheros.
i found out later that that scene waz supposed to represent superman and those he inspired becoming more popular then the old pulpheros.
so,basically, superman did kill doc savage...by outselling him.
