Chapter One
Black Leaf


"C'mon, Jake, hurry up!" Chloe said, running to school. "Hang on! Can't you wait?" I yelled. "Not really! We're almost late! I've got a science test and the teacher is not very forgiving!" Chloe said. It didn't sound like something Chloe would have said. "Fine, you keep going. I'll catch up." I said as she ran as fast as she could. It was a big school. It went from pre-school to high-school. Very crowded, too. I was only happy to get a school as good as this one. It was a long time ago I'd been to a school as good as here. Mage Camp was right around the corner, so if I needed anything, I was ready. Wesley and Avery ran to me. "Ian and I found a black leaf!" Avery said, panting. "Yeah, right on the way here!" Wesley said, also panting. "Where's Ian? And why is the black leaf so important?" I asked. "Ian is still looking at the thing." Avery said. "And the leaf could only mean Shadow's Tree is still alive." Wesley said. "Ok, guys. Let's just get to school." I said as Ian ran up to us. He was running backwards trying to cram the leaf in before anyone could see. "Let's get to class." Ian said after getting everything in his backpack and running into Avery. We walked to school. Matt ran beside us. "Hey guys." He said, in human form. All of our mage stuff was back at camp, except for our tunics. "So, I heard the tree is still alive." Matt said.
