well i decided to stop my quest for old cans and the brown paper bag. i wa just collecting them to get 5,000 of them and get the tin hat, and the hat paper bag anyway. but i only had 678 cans and i've been trying to collect them in towns for ages. so i just figured it was never going to happen and i sold them for about 4,700 gold.
On the other hand, i had 1471 paper bags but they sell for about 4.6 gold each in the market, and 4.6 X 5000 = 23,000gold. And the paper bag hat sells for about 15,000 gold. so it wasnt worth it to keep collecting them for that hat. so i sold them all for about 6500 gold.
