This post shall be about yesterday's events with a particular focus on the System of a Down concert.
I woke up around noon. By 2:30, I left with my parents to get my military ID renewed, which also led to me stealing my band director's chair and getting my driver's license renewed. I got home around 5:30, which left me an hour to sit around before Jamie and her parents dropped by to grab me and drop us off at the SBC Center. Note - I would've driven myself, but I didn't know I was de-expiring my license and Mom was uncomfortable with me driving there because I don't know the area. Anyway, on to the actual concert stuff.
The first opening band was called Bad Acid Trip. I didn't have high expectations, but they still managed to fall very far below my standards. Imagine a louder, more obnoxious Slipknot that screams more and tries to be edgy by pulling out a d***o half-way through their set. Thankfully, that pile of crap was only out there for 25 minutes. After 20 minutes of filler music, The Mars Volta came on stage. It was like an hour-long guitar solo with intermittent bits of singing. They never actually stopped playing, which I suppose could be seen as impressive, but... You couldn't even tell when songs started or stopped. There was one small segment where they were trying to be Pink Floyd and they actually did an okay job at it, so it wasn't all horrible. It was close, but there was that small redeeming bit of mediocrity.
And then there was System of a Down. After another 30 minutes of filler music, of course. Anyway, it was really awesome. I couldn't hear much throughout most of their set, but they played loud enough to both feed and drown out the fuzziness in my ears, so it kinda balanced itself out. They opened with BYOB (their newest single, for those who don't know), but they mostly played stuff from their first two albums. Definitely no complaints from me, considering the third and fourth albums weren't as good. They ended up closing with Sugar, their first big hit, which they said was a special treat for San Antonio that nobody else got. They're probably lying, but it made me feel special anyway.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the non-musical aspects of the concert. I got a nifty shirt (as did Jamie) and I ran into Bianca, Jade, Van, Jack, and Wuzzizface. Now, I could take or leave Van, Jack, and Wuzzizface, but Bianca and Jade are awesome folk. Apparently they didn't realize that the other three in their group were potheads, despite the constant talk of weed and the general stoner/skater fashion. Anyway, I had fun. It was a nice thing to come home to after two weeks of ordered chaos in Indiana and a good last hurrah of the summer, so hooray for that. I should probably be in bed by now, so I think I'm gonna cut this short. G'night, everybody.
