1. What got you into anime and when did that happen?
My Dad watched anime when I was a kid so it was sort of ubiquitous. I never saw it as any sort of weird Niche thing. What really got my interested was seeing the original vampire hinter D Movie. I kept a healthy love for all animation as I aged but wasn't really interested too much in anime until I started watching a ton of it in college.
2. So, what was the first anime that you watched ALL the way through?
Probably the vampire Hunter D movie, Maybe Unico or the last unicorn predate that. For shows, I have no idea. I find it really hard to focus on watching an entire TV series. So I'll get mostly through something and skip a few eps here and there because I get bored with filler VERY easily. It was probably like the Lodoss OVA. I'd say sailor moon but I know there are still a few episodes I haven't watched all the way through.
3. How often do you watch anime?
Probably twice a month? if that. I don't really like watching TV at all. I have to be in a "watching mood". Though when I am in a watching mood I like to watch for hours on end, I've gone through several OVA's all in one sitting. We've managed to go through some long series in a matter of days as well. We finished all of Hana Yori Dango all 52 episodes in about 3 days.
4. Do you often start watching anime series/shows that you end up not liking?
I'm really picky about the things I do like but willing to try a lot of different things so, I have found a number that I've disliked. Unfortuantely I often find that I disliked them after buying the whole boxset as I'm a stickler for not downloading unless a show is unlicensed. Final Fantasy unlimited, and Noir are good examples of us buying the boxsets but, not being able to even watch the whole show. And for some reason EVA we just can not get into, we've tried so many times to watch it but just can't make it click for us.
5. Have you ever watched a show, hated it, then watched it again later for some unknown reason and ended up liking it?
I can't really think of one. I try to hold back judgment though until I've really got a taste for something so I watch past episode 10 before I decide I really don't like it which kind of makes rewatching and later liking a little harder.
6. Have you ever fallen in love with an anime on watching only ONE episode?
No, see my previous answer. There have been some that have grabbed me but, I'm usually not too quick to judge something. Though to be fair their are a few I've decided to hate after 1 episode like Panyo Panyo Digi Charat and Soul taker.
7. Most of us have animes that we adore and we often focus our entire collecting habits around them, of the shows that DO NOT fall into this category, which is your favorite and why?
Probably the Lodoss OVA. I absolutely adore the character designs and love the old school fantasy D & D feel of it. It's got a lot of character depth and development too without dragging a story on way past it's prime which I greatly appreciate. Cel wise it is actually one of my higher priorities it's just that I rarely see quality pieces I can even dream of being able to pay for. Same thing with the artbooks, they're hard to find and expensive.
8. Name your top 3 favorite anime characters of all time. (this question was originally top 5 but, I had issues with that many)
1. Sawa, from A Kite. She's gone through hell and back and didn't let it break her. She one of the most strong and Amazing female characters that I've ever seen portrayed. I really really connect with her in a lot of ways which of course adds to the affinity. I even am planning on getting her blood earrings tattooed on my wrists.
2. Anthy from Utena. For a lot of the same reasons I connected to Sawa I connected to Anthy. She isn't as strong of a character but, endures an incredible amount of pain and bears things most people couldn't even imagine in their worst nightmares. She need the push of Utena's love, to truly recognize her value and worth as a person and not just a vessel for the needs of others.
3. D, as in Vampire Hunter D. Sexy, angsty and caught between two worlds that both fear and revere him, D makes for a very very interesting character. He's stoic but tormented, angsty but mature, he's got such a complex and delicate play of emotions that it's hard not to find a way to identify with him.
9. Name your top 5 animes

2. The Last Unicorn (I love unicorns and even if I didn't the film is beautiful, powerful and moving)
3. The original Vampire Hunter D (see earlier answer on my love for D)
4. X/1999 ( I could go on at length about my love for X or just tell you to read the cel descriptions in my gallery)
5. My neighbor Totoro ( Totoro is my favorite of the Ghibli films, it's so heartwarming and magical. Given the angst overload in most of the other things I watch it balances me out)
10. If you had to choose an anime to watch over and over and over again for an entire year, what anime would it be & why?
Dragonball the original series not Z, GT ect. Because there are enough episodes to space out for awhile and it's so silly and cartoon-esque that it's hard to take seriously enough to get to annoyed by watching.
