Chapter 5
The giant doors slowly closed behind them with a loud THUD!, pretty much reiterating the fact that until their mission was successful or bring back the corpse of a dead girl along with food that they might scavenge from the ruins.
He held his hand up, two fingers pointing to the sky which he then proceeded to make circles with in the air to signify his men that he needed two volunteers to take 'point'. Quickly two of his men rushed forward, rifles drawn up in eye level to scan anything that does not seem human nearby. Then Enrie once more held a hand up, this time it was a balled fist signifying that the group must stop.
I don't like this...something is wrong
Quickly he turned to Quinn, the only girl and the only non-Vanguard crew member at the moment. Nodding at the rest of his men, who understood immediately his silent order, they encircled the girl. He then motioned the whole group to continue moving along the slowly brightening path that leads back in to the ruins of New York. Back to where it all started.
For a good hour they encounted...nothing. Enrie was surprised that his usually reliable hunch was incorrect today, that maybe this mission will not involve an encounter with the Infected. Inwardly, he smiled but his forefinger never left the trigger of 'Buster' as he trodded along, the group finally entering the ruins of a former New York sub-urban neighborhood.
Even hostiles sleep too I guess...
"Men, take a partner and check each house one by one. Do a full clean sweep, as silent as you can, no rush. Take anything in the houses that you may find of value or note the house numbers for future reference...", Enrie said through his helmet's intercom. He personally took it upon himself to be paired up with the girl, the rest of his men silently barging into the empty houses that lined up the empty road.
