Chapter 20- Failed Escape

I awoke from something poking my shoulder. I opened one eye and closed it again. Where was I? I felt the poke again. I shooed it away with my hand, wishing for it to stop. It quickly poked me again and I shot my eyes open.

"Stop that." I mumbled, snuggling my face into the pillow

"It's not that late." I put my head back down onto the soft pillow.

Lin's bed was very comfortable. I paused for a second and shot my eyes open again. Lin's bed? I felt as if something slapped my face. I quickly shot up, as an arm flew across my stomach, pushing me back onto the bed.

"Woah, you okay?" I looked to my left and saw Lin's worried face next to mine, I paused for a second, getting lost in his eyes. My face burned as I took a small breath at how close I was to him, but quickly nodded.

"Just peachy." I beamed.

He pulled me closer to his body by my waist and I snuggled into his shirt, wrapping my hand around his waist. Was he always this warm? I looked up at his face, staring at it for a few seconds.. I can't believe I'm in love with the Dark Lord's son. This family is truly screwed up. He gave me a questioning look, but I quickly gave him a kiss on the cheek, and before he could do or say anything and jumped out of the bed. I flattened out my dress, and fixed my side of the bed, grabbed my bag, putting it across my chest. Lin got out of the bed and came over to my side, wrapping his arms around me.

"Thanks for letting me sleep with yo-- In your bed" I smiled blissfully as I looked at his hansom color-less face.

"I couldn't let you sleep under the window, could I?" I smiled at the thought of him picking me up and carrying me to his bed. I turned around to face his chest and hugged him back.

"I love you." I spoke into his chest

"I love you too." he spoke as he kissed the top of my head.

"What do we do now?" He asked and I felt my stomach growl.

"Food sounds pretty good" I let go of him and looked around for the tray of food from the day before, though I didn't spot it anywhere in the room.

"I have breakfast here, if you want." I turned to look at him. He suddenly had a tray of food in his hands.

"Uh" I stared at him blankly. Did I really sleep that much? "Okay. Thanks!" I walked back towards him and took the tray from his hands, sitting on his bed.

I quickly devoured the food on the tray and put it on the bed next to me. I stood up to look around his room again. If only all the houses in the village could be like this, maybe people would fight less over their property lines. I came across the fireplace again, and saw the same picture of the beautiful lady, in which to me, was in black and white.

"Who's this?" I pointed to lady

"My mother.." His face looked pained. I looked back at the lady and saw the same face structure in her's and Lin's. If the dark lord has a wife, why is he with my mom?

"I'm sorry." I put the picture back down

"She's really pretty." I admired her beautiful porcelain skin, which looked incredibly flawless.

"Yeah.. Dad never got over her death. He's always had to have other women around to keep his mind off her." I guess that would explain why he is with my mom now. I headed towards Lin, with my arms extended, my eyes tearing up.

"I'm sorry.." He took a few steps towards me, and I pulled him into an embrace.

"Don't worry about it. It's not half as bad as how your family is." I gave a quiet chuckle and placed my head on his chest, looking out the window again.

I heard the obsessively large doors creek open and I slightly glanced at the door over Lin's shoulder. Was that mom? I did a double take, almost giving myself whip lash as I saw her face peeking around the door, but saw nothing when I looked back again. What the heck? I heard a woman and a male mumbling behind the door, but I ignored it and shook my head, I must be going crazy. Lin put his fingers under my chin, lifting my head so he could see my face. I looked into his colorless eyes in silence, it was like we didn't need words to communicate how much love we felt for each other. My heart felt like it was pounding against my chest, demanding to be heard. I looked up at him with my heated face as he bent down, giving me a kiss on the lips. I closed my eyes, kissing him back with as much force as I could, I slightly broke away to giggle, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, as he wrapped his hands around my waist, tightening our bodies together in a hold, kissing with as much love as we could muster up.

"WHAT THE HELL?! LIN WHAT IS THIS?!" a voice suddenly boomed through the doors.

s**t. I jumped at the sudden roar as my eyes flew open, immediately letting go of Lin. He let his arms fall to his side and I could feel something rushing to my stomach, making me feel sick. I took a hazy step away from Lin, looking at the Dark Lord. He looked furious, he adverted his glace from Lin to me and I flinched back from the glare. I saw Lin look at me through the corner of my eye. How could he stand there so emotionless? I stood up straight again, glancing at Lin every few seconds, the same nauseous feeling coming back every time. I ignored the Dark Lord by looking at mom. She still had the emotionless face that I almost felt like slapping off her, so she could be our mom again. I squeezed my eyes together and opened them again, almost to wish this all away. My heart was pounding, but now in way that was almost painful, like someone had stabbed me.

'Candace! What's happening?'I heard Maya call to me, sounding worried.

'Mom told the dark lord that she heard Lin and I... and then the Dark Lord saw me and Lin and and and-' My words flowed out of my head, making me feel dizzy. I looked at Lin again, and he mouthed a word to me.

'RUN!' I screamed to Maya

I quickly ran past the Dark Lord, giving him a slight push. I focused on Maya and Jason ahead of us, and keeping up with them.

"Right!" Lin called to us, as we all turned.

I looked at a large door, and knew instantly that it was the exit. I took a quick glance behind me, just like when I was twelve, and the memory of our village being set to flames burned in my mind. I felt my face get hot and my eye sight became blurry. I tripped on my dress, sending myself to the ground with a thump. I felt as if I was going to throw up. Everyone stopped for a second and Lin quickly bent down to help me stand up again.

"Lin hurry!" Maya screamed at him.

The next second, we were surrounded by guards, with their weapons pointing at us. I stood up, getting glares from the guards. I glanced at the door, we were so close, yet so far. Why did I screw everything up? The Dark Lord eyed us, as I stared blankly back at him. He had an even more enraged glare, he then ordered his guards to split us up two per group, meaning Maya was probably with Jason, and I was probably with Lin. The dark lord took a step in front of Lin, his face now having traces of disappointment.

"Can't say I'm very proud of you." My heart thumped at the Dark Lord's disapproval of me.

"Same for you." Lin seethed.

I could feel the tension between Lin and his father. I glanced at Lin, then at the Dark Lord and mom. They were holding hands as if they've been married for years, but mom's face told a completely different story. Some guards suddenly grabbed my arm tightly, and began dragging us to a metal door, through this dark tunnel and down these cold stone stairs. I looked around for Maya, but couldn't see her anywhere and saw Lin next to me. I couldn't tell if he was ashamed, sad, or down right pissed, but he didn't look at me. I turned my head away, not knowing what to say. I was suddenly thrown into a cell, Lin in the one next to me, and the world quickly became pitch black. I felt the guilt run heavily through my body, making me grab my stomach. This was all my fault.
