Caelin crouched behind a thick bush, trying not to make any sound. She carried a bundle in her arms, covered by a blue silk blanket.

"Where did that girl go?" said a male voice, breaking the tense silence.

"Argh! Gregorian's going to KILL us!" shouted another male voice, sounding frustrated.

Celin's breath hitched in her throat, and she sank further back into the undergrowth, as if she could just disappear into the leaves and roots. The bundle in her arms moved slightly, and she glanced at it for a moment, and her eyes softened. But she tensed once more when the two men stepped closer to her hiding place.

"Did you just see something...?" asked one of the men.

"No, Kaldlin. I saw nothing. It was probably just the wind. Now let's go; we've got to go and find the girl and the babe." said the other man.

The first man - Kaldlin - peered into the branches of the bush. He could have sworn he'd seen a flash of blue... but it was probably nothing. He swung his leg over his horse and stared at the bush one last time. He shook his head to clear himself of these crazy thoughts and clicked his tongue.

The sound of horses trotting away filled the silence, until that too began to fade away.

Caelin dare not move, what if one of the men had stayed behind? What if this was just a trap - a false sense of security to lure her out?

Her legs began to cramp, and the sun lowered a little bit more in the sky. Caelin deemed it safe enough to emerge. She brushed off leaves and twigs off of her tunic and leggings. She stood up, still clutching her bundle. Caelin's eyes stared at the horse prints in the dusty dirt path. She silently blessed the uncertainty of Kaldlin and made her way towards her destination - the Village Raed.
