I remember when I started Gaia, I only had my friend's recommendation to go on and nothing else. I got my account on a whim. This will be very good, if you can somehow state what the site is all about for new people. Will help increase population.

While I didn't come to gaia for that reason. I find myself enjoying gaia for that reason.

I think you don't have to worry about the new users of gaia. It will soon become clear to them what gaia is.

I think it's a good idea you're researching and planning on making changes that will make it easier for new users to understand what Gaia is. When I joined in '07, I had no idea what Gaia was about as the homepage had so little information. If it wasn't for the new user quest that was running back then, I probably would've had no idea where to start.
Now, Gaia's grown what I think to be a significant amount since I've first signed up. Considering I myself get lost in some of the new features on occasion, it must be rather hard figuring out where to start now. I thought the logon as guest option that was available for a while was a great way to show off the site and it's too bad there were too many problems with, which caused the feature to be removed.

It's true that Gaia is a little bewildering for new people, refocusing sounds like a goos plan to ensure that new folk aren't put off by the huge array of cool things available to them.

congratulations on a very awesome site, i'm amazed it is so bug-free given how many users there are and how many changes are frequently made... it runs very smoothly and it's really a lot of fun so thanks smile

Yeah, I remember when I was new I had no idea how things worked and was rather lost. For all the new users it must be even worse with all the cool stuff around.

I'm excitedly awaiting the ability to PM all Guild members easily, not only will it increase guild activity, but it'll help get those that are no longer interested in the Guild, to leave, so we captains don't have to chase down and root out users one by one, I understand it'll all take quite a bit of time, but it'll be worth the wait!

Boosting the forums/guilds will be nice! 3nodding Poor guilds are so old they even have the old old forum layout still. (actually journals need some layout update aswell sweatdrop They also have the old layout)

how come there's a lot of things that don't work but every weekend there's a new Evolving items or cash shop update?
I feel like the only thing that matters to gaia now is how fat our wallets are.
and it makes me sad.

please, take the focus off of us and listen to us please, I know that that's what certain forums are for, but not everyone goes there or even knows about them, I hope that you can make this place more like a community because it's direction as of now disappoints me.

My account started after I saw an ad in a manga magazine.

I joined Gaia late 2003 (almost 2004) because of a recomendation from my "guild leader" on neopets xD; she was quitting for this new website "go-gaia." At that time I was looking for something fun and interactive that could keep me hooked. You really cant play neopets for long periods of time without getting bored.

When I came to Gaia I fell in love with the cute, anime-styled avatars and the different hair/facial customization. I spend quite a few hours looking through the shops before it was time for bed. The next day I discovered the forums. =] The Breedable/Changing pets sub-forum is where I ended up first. There were so many threads to chose from! So many different pets of different styles and feeding/growing systems..
Quite awhile later I backed up into the mini shop forum and found tons of adorable art (cup cakes, fruit drinks, kittens) offered for small sums of gold ^ ^
I felt like there was no end to all the different things to do- and find! =]
throughout my Gaian experience I have slowly traveled through the different forums, focusing on each for long periods of time.

Now, years later- I'm busy with college and work, and I don't have the hours that I once had to surf through the forums =] but I find myself still collecting different fun items for my avie and coming up with new outfits in my spare time ^ ^;
Gaia feel's so homey xD because I sort of grew up with it, and Gaia grew up with me too. =]

Anyway I think maybe you guys could brainstorm ideas to help get the better threads to be easier to find (by using the thumbs up/down system?) possibly creating a more user friendly thread searching system (maybe with an option on how to organize the results "highest rated, lowest rated, newest")
but keep all of this as a side feature! So the regular thread system (bumping up topics) would still be in place- as the main forum veiw. =3

We all love you =D and all of Gaia's employees, your hard work and tired hands are what keeps this place here for all of us! =] This really is like a world of it's own, that's why we're called Gaians. ^____^

(edit: Also I can't wait to see what new features are added to the forums! =] I used to get SO excided when there were new announcements and hints of new features, or item updates. ^ ^ Even now, I look forward to the evolving item reports every week =] It's alot of fun to see the new items and features- it's like a present! haha! ^ ^ )
