The above is the song Bitches from the KMFDM album Blitz released just a few months ago. The lyrics are pretty self explanatory. KMFDM is somewhat known for satire in their lyrics. The lyrics here, however, should be heeded especially by anyone who listens to bands for their "meaning". I've listened to this song several times and never really got around to posting about it.

Let's start off with meaningful lyrics. Musical lyrics are essentially poetry. Just write poetry then get a matching beat and you've got a song. Poetry isn't always truth. Many of them simply tell a story to teach a lesson or simply to entertain. It doesn't always mean they are honest. I bring this up because many people who listen to music, especially emo music, tend to listen because they "relate" to the lyrics. There's nothing wrong with finding a song you can relate to, but just keep in mind that much of this is written to entertain the audience rather than to express ones self. You probably don't have a "connection" to the artist so shut up.

This brings me to my next point. I chose the above song to point out what I feel most major bands are thinking. If the band was really "for the fans" they probably wouldn't charge $15 for an album that probably cost less than $1 to make per copy. Maybe they would just play in the park for free rather than making concerts and charging tickets to. When it comes to mainstream bands the music is how they make a living. It's the house payment and the groceries rather than a hobby.

My next point is the "under ground" band. Some say the "underground" bands are better. That's debatable. Personally if I hear something I like then I consider it good regardless of where it comes from. I guess the whole appeal to "underground" music is the whole "non conformist" crap where you are different for listening to different music. The funny irony is that non conformists tend to conform to their fellow non conformists and all act the same. There's nothing wrong with conformity with reason. Everyone else breathes why should I be different? People eat with forks and spoons why shouldn't I?

Admittedly I seem to listen to some music others around me don't. It seems like a small handful of people in my town have even heard of KMFDM. The thing is I don't listen to it for the sake of non conformity. I listen because it sounds good. I listen to Metallica just as I listen to In Extremo. I know it can't be non conformist because I got the music from other friends who listen to the bands. My point here being I am not admitting to non conformity but I do listen to "different" music.

I guess that's all I have to say so I'll make a list of European music I listen to.

In Extremo is supposed to be a Medieval Metal band. They use harps, lyres, bagpipes, and other interesting instruments to play rock with an old school twist. I don't understand German that well, but supposedly their lyrics are frequently based on old folktales.

KMFDM is sort of half American and half German I think. They started in Germany, came to America, and I think they switched back and forth a few times. Anyway I consider them European for their German origins. Anyway they mix rock with electro. They have a sister band called MDFMK that lasted a year or two. They only released one album so I tend to lump them in with KMFDM. A few months ago they also had Skold VS KMFDM where the founder of KMFDM and former KMFDM member Tim Skold (from Manson) made a new album together.
Megalomaniac
Stray Bullet
Anarchy
Save Me
New American Centruy
Juke Joint Jezebel
Never say Never

Rammstein is probably the best known band in this list. They seem to be big in the goth community. The band tends to dress goth which isn't to my liking, but I like the sound of the music. Apparently they got their name from an air base in Germany where there was a horrible accident.
Moskau

Mein Teil
Rosenrot

Sabaton is a Sweedish band apparently. Their songs are usually war related most often WWII.
