My oldest goldfish, Kakashi, died sometime in the early morning. I'm not entirely sure what the cause of death was, as all she had was a small case of Ick [which I had been treating her for]. I suspect that she just gave out after all of those months of neglect. Even though she was in a seemingly healthy tank, there was not enough time to repair the damage that had already been done. It is a real pitty because I have never been attatched to a fish like I was with this one.
She left us looking as pretty as she would ever be. Nearly all of her scars were healed from her back and her fins had absolutely no signs of scarring. She had been sluggish for the past two days, but I was convinced it was because whenever I saw her it was late at night and she was just tired [or I had just woken her up when I entered the room]. Maybe her body just couldn't handle the everyday excitement she had now. Since we placed her in this new tank she had become a very active fish.
I can only assume that she was happier there with her new home and friends [which I found even schooled together]. I would like to believe that she died a happy fish. I've never been so sorry to have lost a pet like this. It just seems that she deserved so much more after how horrible we were to her for so many months. Jim and I did all we could do to make the rest of her life as pleasant as possible. We're really going to miss her and she can never be replaced.
Rest in Peace
