Tides
"Dance with me."
It's rare for anything to sneak up on Saix, let alone close enough to lay hands on his shoulders and whisper into his ears. Bristling, he whirls about, warning sparks glowing around his fingers. The other figure just twists away from him, movements twisting and smooth like liquid. The man's eyes are mismatched in color, but hold the same kind of dream-like mist inside. It's the newest member, Saix realizes, the first Nobody to enter the Organization alone: Demyx, the ninth. There's an odd enigmatic tilt to his mouth that reminds the former cop of druggies at their best. It's not exactly the nicest memory to draw upon, and Saix glares. "What do you want?"
The light of Kingdom Hearts shifts strangely on the newbie's skin, makes his eyes shine in a way that makes Saix suddenly sure this has nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. At least, not any he's familiar with. A breathless laugh bubbles out of Demyx's throat as he dares to dance closer, musician fingers fluttering by the chains of Saix's coat. "I want what I want," he murmurs, eyelids falling slightly.
"That makes no sense," Saix says, the low dangerous tone of his voice a warning. The closer Demyx comes, the straighter Saix becomes. The ore the sitarist smiles, the more narrow the berserker's eyes get.
"It makes perfect sense," Demyx breathes against his lips before ducking and weaving away from violent hands. He laughs again, glancing at Saix over his shoulder as he twists further onto the moonlit balcony. "Come. Dance with me."
"No." Fists tighten at his sides.
No reply, save for a low humming deep in his chest. Those dazed eyes are locked on him, even as Demyx's body begins to twist and turn. Saix is left staring, bewildered, as the sitarist begins to dance. It's like nothing he's seen before; somehow, the movements Demyx makes are unearthly. Time's passing is hard to keep track of, and before Saix knows it, Demyx has finished his haunting dance, and is pressing against his chest, smirking. "You're an odd moon," he says quietly. "Your dark side really is hidden well."
Alarm bells are ringing in his chest, and Saix has to resist taking him by his coat. This situation reminds him too much of being a cop in L.A., with people trying to blackmail him. Lea and Sai had taken care of them before, and Saix is sure they can take care of Demyx. The problem is how he'd explain the sitarist's disappearance... "What game are you playing?"
Just an enigmatic smile, and then Demyx is fainting in his arms. For a second, Saix can only blink before he rolls his eyes with a curl of his lips.
Odd things always happened on Sai's beat. Apparently he is doomed to the same fate.
Unceremoniously, he drags Demyx's limp body into his bathroom and dumps it in the bath. A lock of the door, and Saix retreats to his bed for some actual rest. Not half an hour later, and certain someone is wailing in the bathroom, slamming against the inside of the door.
"Be quiet," are Saix's very first words as he opens up the door, and Demyx quickly does just that. There's no longer that silky grace or mysterious mist in his eyes. Demyx just looks like a deer caught in the headlights of a moving truck as he stares up at him. "Now, explain yourself."
"For, uh." Demyx clears his throat, shifting nervously. The anxious shuffling of his feet is a clear hint he would have bolted ages ago if not for Saix blocking the doorway. "Explain what? Waking up in your bathroom? I'm real sorry, but-"
"I left you there, I don't need you to explain that," Saix cuts him off. "What did you mean by your words last night?"
A blank stare greets his words. "Did I say something to you?" Demyx immediately cowers under Saix's glare, and throws up his hands defensively. "Wait, listen, I can explain! See, I wasn't really human 'before'. I was a spirit, right? My mistress, the person I followed, was the goddess of both death and water. I Was kind of a creature of water, too, and you know what the moon does to water..."
"It controls the tides."
"Right." Demyx smiles at him, then, as if that simple fact binds them together. Idiot. "So because of that, My De used to get a little weird some nights, like when the moon was full. And Kingdom Hearts..." Demyx trails off, and for a moment, Saix can see that dream gaze in his eyes again. "It's a really odd moon."
Sighing in annoyance, Saix asks, "So you remember nothing?"
"Nope, sorry." Shrugging, Demyx smiles sheepishly. The entire time, he's trying to edge around the berserker in a manner that's more subtle and sly than Saix would have given him credit for. It's not good enough to get past the former cop, however. Coolly, he extends his arm towards the door frame and presses his palm against the smooth wood. Demyx immediately freezes at getting caught, and can only lean back when Saix presses forward.
"So... do you believe you'll act this way every time you fall asleep in this world?" he asks slowly, an eyebrow quirked.
"Um." Demyx resists the urge to squirm. "Maybe?" Something is making his breath quicken with how close Saix is, how his breath is warm as it ghosts over Demyx's face and neck. IT's very disconcerting to have that golden gaze focused entirely on him; reminds him of the great cats of his homeworld, living and spirit alike. Then Saix is moving away, cool and indifferent once more. Demyx has a feeling he should be relieved.
"I see." He turns away, interest supposedly lost. When Demyx just stands there in confusion, Saix looks back over his shoulder with a slight curl to his lips. His voice almost oozes the words 'you're a ******** idiot'. "Did it ever occur to you to simply open a portal and escape?"
Demyx's face colors a vivid shade of red, and then he's gone, disappearing through wisps of shadows.
