Chapter 39: Enter the Forest
Another two weeks had passed and we were now out of the plains. That didn’t mean we were out of the woods yet, quite the opposite actually. The next place was the woods. This forest was renowned for its abundance of life, animal and demon alike.
I flipped through the bestiary and scanned the many pages filled with creatures. There was only one tribe of Humanoids here. Thing is, it was a fairly large tribe, so it could have many smaller camps. Luckily, we were well out of their territory.
The Humanoids stayed away from these parts of the forest for good reason apparently. If they did, they’d face their doom. Vampyres. The giant ones. These giants were twice the size of a full-grown Moracian (or human in your case). They were usually the leaders of smaller ones. There have even been records of groups of nothing but Giant Vampyres. A simple two or three Moracians is a ******** snack compared to their normal game. What was normal game? Tigers, my friend. Did I forget to mention the hostile tigers? I didn’t think it mattered since they were no longer on top of this food chain!
Just beyond this the forest, there was a clearing which would serve as the ¾ mark. Whoever won the battle there was ultimately the winner in most cases. It was always here that Lamis liked making its big move. We’d see what they have up their sleeves soon enough.
The map showed a large river that flowed through the forest and emptied into the far away ocean. We decided to follow this river until it turned toward the ocean, which was a serious wrong turn when it came to our destination.
The sun had begin to set and we started to set up camp. Earlier that evening, I killed a huge deer! It was a buck. He was our dinner. I’d become accustomed to deer meat now. Before this trip, you couldn’t give it to me and expect me to eat it willingly!
“We’re out of my territory now, so the lead goes back to you, honey,” said Star.
“Not only will I lead us out of this forest, but to victory, my love!!” I shouted throwing my finger towards the sky.
“Dyron,” Ashley whined, “stop it or you’ll attract tigers or something!”
“Who gives a damn about a tiger? ******** a tiger! ******** a Giant Vampyre! I’ll pwn all their asses!”
Ashley sighed, “Have you forgotten about what happened in mountains, Dyron?”
“Yes, I remember. Yes, it was my fault! But Star is here now, and it’s gonna be different this time!” I answered.
Star was lost in the conversation, and sort of tuned us out until she heard her name and responded, “What do I have to with this? What happened?” she asked.
Ashley explained how I almost got us killed by the Bull Behemoth with my “love of danger” as she likes to call it. Star stared at me for a moment, and simply sighed, “…Wow.” I ducked my head like a dog in trouble, knowing that tone. Star then laughed and said, “Guys!”
“I know, I’m a stupid boy!” I replied.
“No! It’s just the way you are, baby!” she consoled.
“Eh. I guess,” I admitted, knowing that I was not a stupid person. She kissed me softly on the cheek and suggested we go to sleep since the moon had taken the sun’s place now. We did so and the night passed. The next day we trekked through the dense forest. We were getting nowhere! Literally going in circles! Obviously, we didn’t realize this that day. I t was about five days later that we noticed we were getting nowhere. What the hell were we supposed to do?
