The Melody Called Chaos: { Part 7} Coming To Terms
The sun was setting now. The sky was covered in orange and red blotches while the yellow swirled them both together. Ichigo and Maya were talking once again with one another as if nothing had ever happened between them. They were laughing so much that it seemed they had forgotten about the whole kiss and all. Ichigo began talking about something that happened in once of his classes today, but noticed that Maya had stopped and wasn’t listening anymore. He turned to find that she had stopped and was looking up at the sky quietly. He paused as he watched her carefully.
“ Maya what’s up?”
“Hmm? Oh nothing…”
Ichigo felt a chill go down his spine when she said that. He knew that she was lying…but another part of him insisted on not pressing into it. Another part of him insisted that he did press in to find out what was going on in that head of hers.
“ You’re lying…”
Maya paused for a moment, but she didn’t look back at him. She just stood there quietly and sighed softly under her breath as tears were at the brim of her eyes. She dared not turn and look at Ichigo. She knew if she did she would start crying all over again…and she didn’t want him to see her cry. She parted her lips slowly.
“ I know…”
Ichigo could her hear clearly, even if it was a whisper. He knew…that she was remembering something again, something about her mother. He walked to her and reached out for her, but pulled his hand back in until it was time to comfort her.
“ It’s your mom…isn’t it?”
“ You know. My mom was the one who taught me everything I know about taming. It’s funny…I was the only one she had once dad died. She would have been alone if I wasn’t born. She loved me…and I loved her. She gave me this flute…so that I could protect the people I loved. I thought…I was invincible…I thought I could protect the whole world…but it turned out…I couldn’t even protect the one that was MY world.”
Ichigo didn’t like where this was going. He paused until she stopped talking, then he spoke up to try to comfort her.
“ Maya…it wasn’t your fault. You were scared just as I was…there was nothing you could have done to-“
“ She told me to play a note. The note that would have destroyed that Hollow, but…I didn’t…”
Maya paused. Ichigo could see her head sinking down low. She had begun to cry once again. Ichigo’s heart fell into his stomach. What could he do? What could he say? Why did he care so much about how she was feeling? Why was he so concerned about her?
“ Because I was too scared…”
“ You can’t blame yourself…”
“ THEN WHO IS TO BLAME!?”
Ichigo jumped as Maya spun around. The tears in her eyes were both sad and angry. She looked at Ichigo through her tears that wouldn’t stop, not even if someone came to knock her out. They wouldn’t stop and she had so desperately tried not to let him see them again.
“ You can’t keep doing this to yourself Maya. This isn’t doing you any good…”
“ You don’t understand Ichigo! It’s because of me that the Hollow got away. It’s because of me that my whole entire village was slaughtered. It’s because of me that my mother is dead! And it’s because of me…that…that I’m alone…and that I have no one else left who cares about me…or my well being…no one left…to love me…”
Maya bit her lower lip as her eyes shadowed darkly. Her fist were clenched tightly as she tried to fight back the tears, but not able too. Ichigo looked at her silently. He couldn’t stand this any longer. He moved slowly towards her, this time fully aware of what he was doing. He wrapped one arm around her waist and placed a hand on the back of her head, pressing it against his chest.
“ And what does that make me? Huh? Am I nothing to you? Am I nobody? Who are you to say that I don’t care about your self-being? That I don’t care that you’re alone…That…I don’t love you…”
Maya paused in the tears as she looked up at Ichigo through her watery eyes. Had he really just said those words to her? Maya blinked as Ichigo looked down at her, gently stroking her cheek as a crimson red hue covered both their faces. He smiled down at her gently, leaning towards her slowly, closing in on her lips….
“ Maya…Don’t you get it? You’re not alone…you have someone who cares about you. Cares about your well being…someone who loves you…more than you’ll ever know…”
“I…Ichigo…”
“ You have…me…”
Maya was unable to comment on those last three words. Ichigo’s lips were once again locked with her own. Only this time…he wasn’t caught up in the moment. It was for real…his words…his gentle comforting touch…his kiss. It was all real…and he meant every word at that moment. Maya felt tears rolling down her cheeks, but they were happy tears. She had never thought that he would have said those things to he. She wasn’t expecting anything like this to ever happen. She thought she would have to pay the price for not protecting the ones she loved, but instead she was given someone who loved her…someone she loved.
Maya’s eyes closed slowly as she gently kissed Ichigo back. She felt safe in his arms and warm as they kissed.
Ichigo felt his head spinning suddenly. He didn’t know what to think…all he could focus on was Maya at the moment. He knew that he meant ever word that he had said to her. He knew that what he was feeling was the real deal. He knew that for the first time…he was truly in love with someone…who had been a complete stranger to him…someone who had went through a great deal and shared his same pain. Someone…who understood, that…was all he could ever ask for…was someone like her…someone like Maya…and he found it.
A few moments later they pulled apart, not saying anything to one another. At first Ichigo made a gesture to look away from her, but found it quit difficult to break away from her gaze. Maya just couldn’t help but gaze at him. Her mind was all jumbled and she couldn’t put any of the pieces together. For some reason though it didn’t really matter to her at the moment. A soft hue of pink began to creep up on her cheeks slowly. Ichigo blinked and gently cupped her cheek. He smiled softly which made her blush even more.
“You blush a lot more now…”
Maya blinked and smiled softly gently cupping Ichigo’s face. Ichigo paused for a moment in shock and gently closed his eyes, kissing the palm of her hand, which was near his lips. Maya giggled as he did so and grinned at him.
“ And you’ve become more and more affectionate…”
Ichigo’s eyes shot open at that second and he looked at Maya, his cheeks covered in a soft pink as well. She laughed at his sudden expression as he began to try to explain himself to her. She gently put a finger to his lips and smiled softly and sweetly to him.
“ Don’t worry…I enjoy it…”
Ichigo simply smiled at Maya. He was happy to see her laughing. He was really happy to see that she…herself was happy. That feeling inside him was warm. He was really happy to be with Maya at that moment and he couldn’t ask for a better moment.
