Somewhere in Candeline a small child around the age of 6 lay in a semi-conscious state. She couldn't move around or speak a single word. Her eyes were tightly shut. There was something she could do, however. She could hear the running of water nearby and feel small droplets of cool liquid bouncing off of the ground and onto her cheek. She could also feel the cold, rocky ground beneath her.
Her thoughts echoed in her mind, Where am I...? And more importantly, who am I? She listened even more intently now. Although the dripping noise slightly distracted her attention, she could hear faint giggling far off in the distance. What happened to me, she started to think again, And why does my head hurt? Was I hit by something?
The faint giggling noises were not so faint anymore. They seemed to be getting closer. Maybe she might be able to ask them for help? Giggling was not something a harmful person did. At least.. she thought so. Not much was coming back to her so far.
The girl could feel a faint breeze caressing her face, as if someone was fanning her. Was someone there? The giggling was much louder now, as if she could just reach out and touch whatever it was.
Some cool water splashed on her cheek. Although it wasn't much- not even a small glass full- it was definitely more than a drop of water. "Hey, you! Wake up!" a soft, quiet voice called to her. The poor girl hadn't even the energy to open her eyes.
"Is she dead?" the soft voice asked, curiously. Another voice answered, "How am I supposed to know? She could be in a coma, for all I care," in a slightly rougher tone. The soft one spoke again, almost soothing to her ears, "Wake up, little one.. Please show us that you're alive.."
The girl tried to concentrate on her voice, using all her energy to try to utter a single word. All she could manage was a soft squeak, but it was enough. "Oh, heavens! She's still in there!" the soft voice said to the other. "We have to help her, Klawus, please!" There was a silent pause. Then other voice answered, "Fine Ukriel, but I don't care what happens to her after, okay?" There was an excited squeal, most likely from Ukriel. The girl felt slightly relieved.
There was a glowing light that the girl could barely make out behind her eyelids. One seemed to be a different colour than the other. She felt as if someone had removed all the chains holding her down. The girl opened her eyes slowly, and saw two shapes she had never seen before. They didn’t look like anything she’d seen before.. But right now she couldn’t even trust her memory.
One had a skin tone of a sunny yellow colour, as if she had been born from a daffodil. Her hair hung down long and fair. She was ice blonde. She was small, and could probably fit inside a shoe. She looked like she had a curious nature to her, as if everything she saw was new. Her eyes seemed to almost change with a trick of the light from yellow, to blue, to green. Wings sprouted from her back that seemed to match her eyes, and they were smooth, almost like a butterfly‘s wings.
The other one looked like moss on a rock, a dark green curly hair and grey skin. He had twigs in his hair, almost as if someone had dragged him through a forest. His eyes changed as well, but in slightly different colours. They changed from a rocky grey to a bright red, and a tone of light brown, as well. He also had wings that would match his eyes, but his looked more rugged like they had been cut from fabric by someone who didn’t know how. He seemed older than the girl creature, and a bit taller.
The girl stared at them, and they stared back. She blinked, and so did they. The girl creature finally broke the silence. “My name is Ukriel Kavar. What is your name, little one?” Ukriel asked in a warm voice, not wanting to scare the poor girl. “My.. Name?” the girl said, trying to reflect on her memories. Nothing came. “I.. don’t know..” she said, solemnly.
