"What do you want?" I finally asked.
Come with me... Said the voice again.
Shocked, I gave him a last scared glance and shot into a sprint back to St. Martins with an arm that burned like someone had stabbed it with a red hot poker left in the fire too long. Once I hit the corner, I whirled around to see if he had chosen to follow me, but happiness finally filled me when I saw that he was gone, as if he had just vanished into the cool fall air. I changed directions and headed for John's house, too afraid to go anywhere else. I've never told him about my stalker, but he never asked, I would just run into the room and he'd hold me untill I stopped crying. He would never ask what it was that made me cry, just held me and prevented me from crying more. He truly was a great father.
When his small blue Sedan came into my line of vision, a small spark of hope started in my chest; he was home. I shouldn't have been surprised because most of the workers at St.Martins were off on Sunday. I burst through the front door too see him pounding at his laptop keybaord and looked on the verge of crying himself, which was odd for John. He had always been a strong man, never showed much emotion other than compassion. He snapped the laptop shut as if to hide something and shot up instantly. He grabbed my shoulders and directed me toward the couch. He sat down beside me, wrapped his armed around me like a cocoon, and I leaned my head into his shoulder.
I know I'm not one to ask," he said, "but this is the fifth time this week. What's up?" He looked down at me curiously with big rould brown eyes that held nothing less than pure understanding and protection.
I'd kept this from him for a week, he had helped me every time. I had to tell him, it was the least I could do as a thank you.
"You have to promise not to freak out. Okay?" I asked.
