Now, I still hear about that "American Idol" with Stones week and it didn't do me any good. As I watched that show, I just got more and more disappointed as the show went on. A thought that struck me was that they were all trying to take the east way out and do soft, more ballad type songs like "Angie", "Wild Horses" and all that.
I watched them and there were possibly one or two that I liked. I did like "Play With Fire".That might have been the only version I liked. I some-what liked the "Under My Thumb" version. I absolutely despised the "Paint It, Black" version by that one girl. It reminded me of that no talent hack, over dramatic, diva, Mick Jagger wannabe Adam Lambert.
It was too over the top and dramatic for my likes. I wanted a darker feel for it, not a shrieking opera singer on it. I didn't like "Honky Tonk Woman" at all. Especially when she changed some lyrics. I know she did it to fit her gender, but I didn't like it. It sounded too country and diva like.
Everybody kept turning it into acoustic stuff. Please, stop with that. Stop trying to go for the 'struggling artist' or 'tortured artist' image and just go all out.
A big disappointment was when none really ended up using the stage. They all mostly just sat down and did nothing. I needed energy when they went up there. They were so stationary.
"Gimmie Shelter" was something different. I did think it was at least okay and all, but I hated the instruments. It was weak sounding and I think that "Gimmie Shelter" is song where you have to be good. Otherwise you'll be open for attack. For them not to do the Merry Clayton's part in there with "Rape, Murder/It's just a shot away" is a very large let down. Without her, there's nothing.
I just didn't really get this one. It was possibly a grade of D- that night. I wasn't impressed.
