An artist looks at an empty canvas and calls it beautiful. He takes his time to carefully see the blank purity and what amazing potential it holds deep within. When he finally picks up the brush it is a gentle motion that brings the paint to the canvas, meticulously painting in the smallest details with great care. As the painting progresses some things need to be painted over and removed, smudges and blurs of something unsatisfying to the eye. The painter works nonstop, continuing even when the paint stains his hands and even his face and clothes, he shrugs off the mess without a care in the world. He wants to see, he needs to know, how the painting will end. When it is finished the painter looks at his masterpiece with tired but gleaming eyes. The painting is hung for all to see, its blank beginning and smudged cover ups completely unknown to the awestruck passerby’s stares. It hangs looking proud and perfect, but everyday the artist comes by to see his creation, a nostalgic smile dancing across his tired old face. He can see what the others can’t, the slowly disappearing white of the canvas and the mistakes underneath. But, still he smiles, a smile that outshines all others and gives the painting a reason to be proud. Despite all of its problems and the time it took to complete it the painting is proud to know it is loved by the one who gave it the blessing of beauty it didn’t know it could have.
