The cart continued to jostle us along the dirt rode well after I fell asleep. I awoke while it was dark, hoping that we had been moved off the cart. No such luck. Everyone was crowded together, chains still on. I squinted my eyes to see further down the rode and regreted it. There, not more then a half a day's ride ahead was a large walled city. If I was saving these people, it would have to be now. I needed an idea. Instinctively I grasped for my necklace, a chain boasting a beautifully shaped silver rod. I had worn it for as long as I could remember, but I knew what I would do. Carefully, I bent down so that my hands could unclip it. It fell with a small thud that sent my heart fluttering. I had to stay calm. Awkwardly, I fiddled with my cuffs 'till I heard a click and my hands were free. One of the men stirred and I held my breath. Nothing else happened, so cautiously I whispered to Neema "i'm getting you out. Run to the city ahead, take the others, say you're refugees" She opened her eyes and nodded "thank you" I silently undid her bonds and moved around the wagon, doing the same as I had with her. Finally, after what seemed like ages, they were all free. "run!" I whispered and they all fled. I was just about to jump out to follow when one of the men, who must have been doing rounds and fallen asleep yelled "They escaped!" I had no choice but to run now, but I couldn't lead them to the others who were now hiding in the woods that paralleled the road. Desperately, I ran the way we had come, but my legs were short in comparison with my foes and before long the one who raised the alarm grabbed for my neck missing, catching my arm instead. I cried out in pain, it was the same one I had fallen on earlier. I crumpled to the floor and the man hoisted me over his shoulder, dropping me back in the cart "you let 'em go!" One shouted angrily at me. Then he spotted the silver I still grasped in my hand and tugged it free "we'll be keep'en this" He grinned, showing all of his blackened teeth. They cuffed me back down and set about arguing. I tried to listen and stay awake but my eyes wanted to close and I slipped back to sleep.
