What happened to New Year? It felt like only a few days had passed since New Year's Day, but it's actually the 19th already! I felt like I barely had time to get things done in the past few weeks. After a week of prep work, The secure server upgrade had been pushed live. All together there were more than 5000 files that were changed. Any references to non-secure links or images had to be replaced, yet internal links need to be retained. The PHP compiler is upgraded to version 5.6 so a ton of depreciated functions need to be replaced with new ones. Despite a full month of testing, we still ended up with dozens of bugs to fix after release. The frenzy from fixing the major bugs were crazy stressful. It's the second week now and the major problems had finally been fixed... sweatdrop What made things more fun was that we started getting reports of hacking, where the 13 year old Sushi server were leaking user's IP addresses to other users. We had to convert Towns 2, Rally, and Virtual Hollywood to run on the SmartFox server which zOMG is currently using. The conversion was done over last weekend but there are still plenty of bugs to fix... Overall we now have a much more secure site, code now run a little smoother and we also fixed even more backend bugs during the whole migration. As a side bonus, we also upgraded the image libraries. Avatars now take up less space and look a tiny little bit better. Can you spot the difference?

I cant notice a difference at all. lol, maybe because im on my crappy work computer.

You had so many things in your mind and heavily engrossed with your work, that's why time went by very fast. Once you've finished something major, try to give yourself a break to relive all those stresses!

Hmm, I can't spot the differences. Maybe the difference isn't something visible? I have never been good with computers besides what I currently know. sweatdrop

The only diffrences I can see are one gray pixel below the eye on the right side of the image. It's missing in the middle two. Then the hair fade is smoother on the first and last one.

you may not be aware of this, but both Towns 1&2 and housing seems to be totally glitched since these changes.

WHEW! Time flies... when you are having "fun", eh? Man! The troubles you be having! But you guys got it all done and you must be relieved the big stuff is out of the way. Now for all the small stuff. Always rest between times. Hope you are feeling better. Dont run yourself down like that again or you will get sick again!
Anyway, great job, Gaiz!

I cannot see the difference between the images.

This has been incredibly exciting, so know at least some really appreciate what you're doing and the sacrifice of time and energy you're making. Having the site updated and running smoothly means it's easier to add new content later, and a reduction of the reports that clog up the system. Even if this is rough, you're doing great and we love hearing about the particulars of your work.

3nodding i can see there is more shading; adding a more colorful dimension and not just blobs of paint. so kudos for the upgrades. also my pc is loading much faster. thanks for all your hard work!! 3nodding

After staring at it for a loooong time I can see what you're talking about, I think.
In the last one the hair color gradients just look smoother between the transitions. Idk how to describe it. Like, looking at the right side of the hair with the pinks/purples/blues, it doesn't look like blocks of colors in the last picture like it does in the first three. They're blended together much better and look a lot nicer, instead of kind of muddled. Nice job, Lanzer and co. c:

Time flies by when you're engrossed in alot of work, just make sure to get plenty of rest and keep those stresses at bay. We really don't want anyone being stressed and exhausted at the end of the day, we all know that you and all the other staff are working flat out to get Gaia to where it needs to be Lanzer smile

I am so happy that we now have a secure server and that no-one is at risk anymore! Though those sushi servers seem to love giving you guys grief lol!

I can't spot any difference but I do take your word for it Lanzer, I'm just not an expert like you {heck some of what you put in this journal sounds like another language to me hahaha}

Anyway just keep trucking along and do as much as you can without making yourselves ill! ^^

After looking a few times, I could tell that that the newer shading was much smoother (most noticeable on the hair). But better is that the image storage takes less space.

Generally glad that Gaia is finally working on getting more code current and looking to the future rather than stubbornly sitting on old code and infrastructure despite the inevitable nightmare of upgrading. Hope the devs are keeping good notes of everything and making sure to sleep/eat properly!

Bad idea with the wishlist pages. We can't move things from one page to the other. What we really need is the wishlist to display like invo, taking up a smaller space.

The change isn't so abrupt as before.
Most people probably won't see the difference because the human eye glances and guesses a majority of the time. sweatdrop Our eyes have a habit of automatically blending things together unless we focus. heart heart: heart
