I wanted to touch it... No, I had to touch it. I needed to know if it was real or if I was just insane. And as odd as it may sound I was really praying for the latter.
The gold container mocked me, distorting my face and twisting it so my face made faces... At me! I couldn’t stand looking at it so I walked out to the back pouch, my grandfather’s dog not far behind. My uncle’s spray-hose lay on the ground; the sunrays reflecting off of it reminded me of that container. God I hated that container. But what lay inside... Now that was a different story. I loved that woman; I loved her smile, I loved her heart, I loved everything about her. That’s why I had to touch it. I had to know if this was all a dream.
Back inside I lingered closer to it, hand twitching at my side. Just one... Just one little touch and I’d know for sure. My grandfather called for me so I hurried off to his room. I often wondered if anyone could see though my guise, that I only pretended to be over my loss and that was why I played with his dog so much, why I smiled so much, why I laughed. And though I hated being in her room I found myself in there more often then not.
It smelled weird now that is was clean... Well, cleaner than before anyway. My aunt had really done this by herself? I decided that was unlikely, my grandmother slept on a huge bed and there was no way my aunt could have gotten it out by herself. I sighed and fiddled with her dog whistle on the wall. God bless that woman, she’d buy things and you’d think them worthless until one day you needed that thing... And she’d have it.
