I'm still not ready to write that entry I promised about the Da Capo Best Music Writing 2006 anthology, mainly because I've still only read four of the essays. So far my favorite is the piece on the new John Adams opera about the creation of the atomic bomb; but once I've gotten through a few more of the pieces, I'll write something more detailed.

Today was a dull day at work. I was at the Apothecary, and if it hadn't been for school groups we would've had no visitors for the first two hours. For lunch, I made the mistake of going to Hardee's. I've been disappointed with them ever since they took roast beef sandwiches off the menu; and the service has been deteriorating, both in terms of speed and quality, at the one closest to me for a while now. The part that I always find amusing is that the numbers they assign for you to take to your table while you wait for your food appear to be completely random, or at best way out of sequence; today, the guy in front of me got #52, while I got #51. confused

The other thing that struck me about that guy was, he ordered (and ate) two double cheeseburgers and fries, and he didn't look fat at all. Whereas I could eat nothing but carrots for a week and probably still gain weight. I'm not anywhere near obese, but if you've seen the pics I've posted of my work outfits, you know I'm not exactly svelte; and while it's not really a big deal for me, I'm always a little jealous of people who can seemingly eat endless quantities of food and never gain weight. And most of these people also don't seem to exercise, though I have no way of knowing if that's true for the dude at Hardee's.
