Omigawd, you have no idea how good the CD called "Magic 72" by "Joy" is!!! My mom just got me it 'cause I saw her on the New Year's festival shows and I was like, "HOLY s**t! She's so cute! She sounds so good! She had such an awesome wardrobe! WAI!!! WAI!!!"
I just uploaded it on my iPod and I'm just...blasted away. I have such good taste. Ha hah, just kidding, this is a rarity, when I buy a CD and find that it's all good. I'm really proud of myself. Ha hah! Oh yeah, so I should totally get to the point, you know how I love to rant about something whenever I post.
Anywho, lately I've found myself really trying to get in touch with my "Chinese" culture. A lot of people at school that are in the "AzN cOnNeCtIoN" think I'm totally "whitewashed." Which I found insulting, but it was great to prove 'em wrong. I don't like to think I'm "whitewashed" and for a time I did think I was a "banana." A little while later I met someone who was BEYOND "banana," she was TOTALLY Americanized. It was SCARY.
So I was talking to this girl who came from China and she was all, "Did you see the Chinese New Year stuff?" And as I was about to say yes she interrupted me and said, "Oh, you probably didn't, you're so whitewashed." ((All in Chinese...)) Then I just gave her this look like to say screw off. My gawd, how absolutely PRESUMPTUOUS!!! So I started mouthing off crap about such and such artist and such and such part of the stuff. Ahh, I shall forever treasure the look on her face afterwards. She then blurted out, "Wow, I didn't know you were so...Chinese."
*And to those reading this who aren't Chinese or Asian, I'm sorry if I sound racist, but I don't really know any other terms. ^^; I tried to make things in quotations so that people would understand that I don't actually do all that categorizing.
Anyway, so I just wanted to protest how a person's own nationality's people can turn on him or her. It's really insulting to be claimed that you know nothing about your own "homeland's" culture. I mean, you'd think that you can assume someone would take pride in their background. But I dunno, it's just the way I think, you know. No matter where your background births from, whether you're American or from Zimbabwe, I think you should be able to look at your culture and puff up your chest from it! Even if you're multicultural in background, you should be just as doubly happy! You have even more to celebrate. People should really start revelling in old traditions, we're losing too many in today's society!
Stand up! Celebrate and revel in being you! Cheer in the happiness that you're that person from that country and be happy!
