*As a side note I will be calling chapters stages since .Hack is an online game. Also Stage I does not mean that this is the first time the characters meet; it is just the name of the first chapter as mentioned*

STAGE I

Akira stared at the ceiling of her bedroom, dazing in and out. Currently, her life was a mess. You wouldn't know it, but she was on a journey to save her brother Fumikazu from his coma. Actually, no one would really know that except her friends in The World. After all, she had to play that dreaded game in order to help her little brother. Thinking about this, Akira realized that the only actual person she had told anything about her brother to, was Mistral her Wavemaster friend. "Kite doesn't even know..." thought Akira aka BlackRose in The World. "Oh no, I'm doing it again!" Akira lectured herself.
Lately, everytime she said Kite's name she started thinking about him. She kept telling herself she only thought of him so much because he was in the same predicament she was (with his friend Orca being in a coma just like her brother) and the fact that she didn't know much about him. Then again, she didn't even tell him about her brother. Akira began to feel guilty but tried to push the feeling away. "Why do I feel guilty?! Kite doesn't need to hear my problems anyway..." she thought.
Akira turned on her side; she just couldn't go to sleep. She decided to tiptoe to the computer in Fumikazu's room and log in. She couldn't help it, but she felt like she needed to talk to someone, mainly someone named Kite. "I hope he's on," Akira said staring at the clock. She knew it would be highly unlikely due to the fact that it was 12:43 PM and Kite was probably asleep, but she just wanted to maybe find some answers about Kite...maybe she would even finally tell him about herself. "Alright, here I go!" Akira said as she logged in.

BlackRose stood there in the town alone by the Chaos Gate from where she entered. Her and Kite mainly met at the one in MacAnu so she was hoping he would be there. "This is stupid..." Akira muttered to herself as she saw her character standing solo on the screen. "I guess I might as well log off..." she thought. Dragging the mouse over to the Log out button, she hesitated as she noticed something odd. "Wait a minute, where is everyone?" She knew that it was 12:43 PM where she lived, but The World was accessible to everyone in the real world meaning that people would be on at all hours. Especially MacAnu since it was the beginner area.
"This can't be good...I better look around" Akira thought. What if Kite was in danger? After all, he did hold the Bracelet and the worst things usually happened to her and Kite because of that. BlackRose began searching around the alleyways and streets of MacAnu. "Hello, hello?" she echoed. She felt utterly alone. No one was to be found. "I'll try sending him an e-mail" Akira said as she typed up a quick message saying, "Where are you...something weird is going on Kite." She clicked Submit but the word ERROR popped up. "Eh? Darn it!" Akira exited out of the messages and went back to being BlackRose. "I'll just keep looking! I can't give up!" BlackRose mouthed what Akira just said. The sky in MacAnu was unusually dark and clouds covered every inch of it. Suddenly, BlackRose heard a deafening roar as though she were directly in a tornado! "Ahhh!!" she screamed and tried to throw the goggles off her head that were worn to play the game. For some reason, she was paralyzed in her real life form too! "Oh no...am I going to end up like Fumikazu?!" Akira thought. "I can't!" she struggled to jerk the goggles off but they wouldn't budge. A loud rumbling followed as if something huge hit the ground and then a faint voice came across Akira's speakers, "Hang on...." Then all went black.
