Holding you
There are times when I simply want to hold you.
Wrap you in my arms, close my eyes,
Feel your warmth, your heartbeat against my chest,
The moistness of your breath against my neck,
The butterfly tickles of your lash against my skin.
With each indrawn breath I take your essence in,
Absorb it and weld it to my soul, to refresh
And carry that renewed essence, so purely you,
With me throughout the day.
Sometimes it's like a hunger from which
There is no escape, a need that naught but you
Can fill or give relief, a banquet of delights
That so fills me and set the world to right,
But without, almost sets my teeth on edge,
Puts my day off kilter, grey's the sky, blots the sun,
Sends bitter winds to chill my spine, and rain
To hide the hungers tears falling from my eyes,
Like drops of blood falling from my aching heart.
In years gone by, as a younger man,
Before knowing you, before I came to know
Your love, and what total love can truly be,
I could not have felt, let alone have said
These simple words of cherished love to you,
For they are of a different passion that I did not know,
And had I known, would have thought less than manly.
