I have a summer reading list for my honors english class and this book happened to be on it. The name sounds stupid and you don't really get its title until the book is more than half over.
The beginning is a bit confusing because you are literally thrown into the story. You appear right after their crash landing. All adults are dead and the island the land on is only inhabited by themselves (British Boys). They start out with good plans and create shelters and the signal fire on top of the mountain. Then the story takes a turn when the kids start to forget what they should be doing. Most don't realize that they need a fire and shelter and things so that they will survive. Many become less than human and can only think about hunting and killing. They start to kill the weaklings and.......
I can't tell you the entire story but it does end on a "sort of" happy moment.
