Val's zOMG! Musings
Give feedback my minions.

Regarding the recent SOPA events, and discussion of piracy in general... I just had to get this off my chest:

I am so incredibly disappointed by the backwards, and even selfish logic displayed by the entertainment industry.

"If you can't pay me, you can't enjoy my stuff". A much better opinion, is to say "Enjoy away, but please pay if you're able!".

Who. the. hell. would stop someone from enjoying something just because they don't want to pay for it? It's not going to magically get you more money, it's just going to make you look like a douche.

And people don't like to buy from douches. I'm looking at you EA Games.

As recent events have shown us, the key isn't to fight piracy, to treat them as criminals. The key is to beat them at their own game. I mean, Do you know why I downloaded Game of Thrones? Because it is going to be halfway through this year when I can watch it free and legal off TV where I live. WHY, in this age of internet, should I wait that long? It's stupid.

What they should do, is release it through some media distribution network for a nominal fee - iTunes is a good start, but something with a proper video codec platform would be better IMO. Oh, but those don't really exist and aren't globalized properly - because the dumbass corporate fat-cats are wasting their money suing pirates rather than trying to provide a decent service.

The icing on the copyright cake for me is how our government sold our country out to America. For the sake of the possibility of better trade negotiations, American companies are now able to sue, and even take away the internet from, people who torrent files.

Pathetic.
