[Vampiress's Revenge cont.]
At this he looked as if he was going to cry again. “There were noises outside. He told me to hide so I did. The noises came in and I saw him fighting them off. I was scared so I stayed. When the noises were gone I went out and I saw that they killed him.” He paused to rub his eyes.
“What did you do after?” I pressed.
“I went to The Rose Bud and I looked for my master’s friend, but he was killed too. I heard the rumors so I went looking for you. I thought that if you helped I would be able to avenge his death.” He started to cry.
I thought that it was strange that he could talk like this. A saddened thought came to me.
“Was your master a scholar?” I asked.
“Yes. He was. He taught me how to read and write and improved on my speech.” He said.
“No wonder why you never seen or used a gun.” I mumbled to myself.
Alderen nudged me. I turned and stood up. He leaned forward to whisper, “He doesn’t have anywhere to go. Maybe he can stay with us.”
“Hm…Maybe.” I thought out loud.
I turned back to Davey and asked, “Do you have any place to stay?”
Davey shook his head. “No. I can’t find any of my master’s friends.”
“Would you like to stay with us? We have an extra room.” I offered.
“Could I?” He asked.
“Yes. Of course.” Alderen said.
His face split in a wide smile. He hugged me and Alderen in turn. I smiled at him.
“Do you still have your things in your house?” I said.
He nodded. “Alright. Then we need to get them.” I said.
He ran out the door and waited for us. Alderen stopped me and said, “If he’s not afraid of heights, maybe I can fly him there and you can follow on your motorcycle.”
“Yeah. You can do that.” I said, grabbing my helmet off the table.
“Davey?” Alderen walked out. “Would you like to fly with me?” He asked.
Davey’s face lit up like a Christmas tree.
“Guess that means yes.” I said, smiling.
Alderen took off his coat and tossed it over the back of the chair. He and Davey walked to the roof. I ran down to my motorcycle.
I started the engine and looked up to see Alderen holding Davey. I almost panicked when Alderen jumped off, but he flew up and waited for me.
I flew down the street with Alderen and Davey over head. Davey pointed out the way for Alderen to follow and I followed Alderen.
We reached the house and Alderen and Davey landed. I turned the engine off and got off the bike.
When I walked in there was blood all over the floor and walls. The place reeked of decaying flesh. The body of the scholar laid in a pitiful heap.
“Davey, go get your things.” I said.
He ran to what I believed was his room. As we waited, I looked around the house. It was all wood. The floors, the walls, even the ceiling. It looked like the inside of a cottage.
The stench of rotting skin filled my nose as I walked by the body. I turned as I heard Davey.
“How long ago did this happen?” I asked him.
Before he could speak, someone else did.
“Three nights ago.” I spun around as the sound of a gun going off filled the room. A pain filled my chest, but it soon passed.
A growling sound came from behind me. I turned to see Alderen changing. His skin turning a dark grey and his bones snapping. His eyes turning pure black.
There was a loud roar and Alderen lunged through the door and barreled into the slayer. Davey and I ran to the door.
A horrid, blood curdling scream filled the air as the slayer’s body was ripped apart. It was so horrible that I couldn’t watch. I covered Davey’s eyes and pressed him to me as I turned away.
Suddenly, the screaming stopped and there was the cracking of bones. I turned and looked at Alderen. I didn’t realize that I had been sobbing and my cheeks were stained with blood.
He walked over and went to touch my face, but I couldn’t help but flinch away from him. He drew back his hand as if touching something hot. He too looked as if he would cry, but his face only held an ashamed expression.
When we got home, I fixed up the extra bedroom and placed his nick-knacks around on the shelves. I put his clothes in the dresser. I tucked him in and watched him.
“Would you like to stay here?” I whispered to him.
He nodded and yawned. His eyes started to get heavy and I pulled the covers up more.
“Then this will be your home.” I smiled and sat on the edge of his bed. I watched him fall asleep. I walked out and closed the door.
I looked around for Alderen and found him sitting on the edge of our bed. I walked over and sat beside him. He was staring at his hands, just as Davey had done. He was still covered in the slayer’s blood.
I slipped my hand in his. He looked up at me with vacancy. I didn’t know what to say.
He spoke first. “Why didn’t you flinch from me?” He asked, sadly.
“I…” I didn’t want to say it.
“Do you fear me, Amilyia?” He demanded, standing up.
“Alderen, I?” He interrupted.
“I thought you liked my other side better.” He said in a growling voice.
“Not when you’re ripping someone to pieces.” I cried out.
He looked as if I slapped him in the face. He moved away from me.
“He shot you. What was I to do? I don’t use the weapons you use.” He said.
“You should. It’s effective and it’s less messy.” I retorted.
“And what if I don’t want to.” He said in his growling voice.
“I don’t care.” I said, turning to go into the bathroom.
He grabbed me and turned me to look at him. “I love you, Amilyia. You know that I would never hurt you. Just let me do what I can to protect you.”
I looked up at him. I studied his face for a moment. I slipped my arms around his neck. He hugged me tight. I buried my face in his chest and he pressed closer.
“I’m sorry. It was just not like you.” I said. “You never had to fight in the past.”
“But now I have to fight. I want to fight, Amilyia.” He said.
“I know. I know. I just don’t want to see it.” I said.
“You won’t.” He promised.
I looked up at him and he kissed me. I kissed him back and he hugged me closer.
“Come on. We need to get the bullet.” He pulled me into the bathroom.
I pulled off my shirt and examined myself. The bullet hit the sternum and was sticking out slightly. ‘This is going to hurt.’ I thought.
“Don’t worry. I have a trick that I learned.” He cleared his throat. “Mind you, I didn’t know she was going to do it.”
I looked at him confused, but he told me it meant nothing. I placed my hands on my hips as my suspicion grew.
He shook his head and took fold of the end of the bullet that was sticking out. I looked up at him as he leaned down. He kissed me passionately. I tried to move away, but he held me still. A sharp pain filled my chest and I pulled back.
“She did that to you?” I yelled.
“Yes, but she had my backed into a corner. Her and three others.” He explained. “I pushed her back and told her I was in love with you. She was really upset that she did it.” He added.
I looked at him with hurt filled eyes. I crossed my arms and pouted.
“I swear it meant nothing. I didn’t think she was going to do something like that.” He said. “I swear it.”
I looked at him for a moment or two. “Alright. I believe you.” I said.
He sighed. “That’s good. Look. It worked. I got the bullet out.” He held it up.
“I guess it did. It still hurt though.” I rubbed the spot where it was, but the wound had healed.
“Awe. Poor baby. You’ll live.” He said.
I looked at him in shock. “Well, that wasn’t very nice.”
He grinned and shrugged. I punched him in the arm. I went to go change.
“Hey…Now that wasn’t nice.” He said, holding his arm. “That really hurt.”
“You’ll live. I said, climbing into bed. “And who ever said I had to be nice?”
“Your mother did. I was there when she gave you that speech when you ripped the head off that doll. Who’s was that?” He asked.
I mumbled something into my pillow.
“What was that?” He asked.
“Your sister’s.” I said, loudly.
“You ripped my sister’s doll?” He asked.
“Yes.” I looked up at him from the covers.
“She said a dog did it.” He said, lying next to me.
“I told her I’d have her punished if she said anything to you.” I said, hiding under the covers.
“Why did you rip it?” He asked.
“Because you paid more attention to her than me.” I confessed.
“I had to. She’s my sister.” He said, moving closer to me.
“I was fifteen. I was jealous.” I mumbled.
“That still didn’t give you the right.” He said.
I shrugged and dropped the subject. He moved closer and hugged me close.
“It’s alright. It’s in the past.” He said, kissing my cheek.
“I love you.” I said.
“I love you too.” He replied.
***************
My mind was swimming in black, nothingness. No dreams filled my head. No horror stricken faces crossing my mind.
An ear splitting scream filled my head and I woke with a start. There was another scream and I threw off the covers and jumped off the bed. I slid across the wood floor on my socks and I stumbled a bit. I threw open the bedroom door and Davey was bolt upright in bed, bawling his eyes out.
“Honey, honey! What’s wrong?” I yelled over the screaming. I shushed at him slightly.
“Davey!” I yelled.
He stopped and looked at me with blotchy eyes. He was whimpering something.
“What is it?” I asked him.
“The bunnies…The bunnies…”He shrieked.
“Okay. Alright. What did they do?” I asked.
“Chasing me.” He whimpered.
“The bunnies were chasing you?” I asked.
“They had long, pointy teeth and claws. And they were scary looking.” He grabbed my arm.
“Don’t worry. They won’t chase you anymore. Time to go back to sleep.” I said, lying him down and putting the covers on him.
I left the door open for him and I walked back to my room. Alderen was sound asleep. ‘He wouldn’t wake up if a marching band came in.’ I thought.
I laid down and pulled the covers up to my chin. I closed my eyes and started to drift to sleep.
I felt eyes on me and I tried to ignore it. I rolled over and still felt them on the back of my head. I rolled back over and opened my eyes. Davey was staring at me with those shiney nocturnal eyes.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Could I sleep in your bed? I’m afraid the bunnies are going to come back.” He said.
“Even though you’re smarter than the average eight year old you still act like one.” I said, moving closer to Alderen and lifted the sheets for him to climb in.
“Thank you.” He said, cuddling up to me. I sighed and closed my eyes. I soon fell asleep again.
***************
I awoke again to a loud awe. I looked towards the edge of the bed and Jiye was standing there. There was a flash of light and I winced.
“This is going to be my Christmas card.” She said in a watery voice.
I sat up and rubbed my head. The two boys were asleep. I knew that was why Jiye freaked.
“No cards. And what the hell is Christmas?” I asked as I climbed out of bed.
Jiye looked as if she was going to have a heart attack and drop her camera. She sucked air into her mouth and looked away.
“Are you telling me that you don’t know what Christmas is?” Jiye asked finally.
“Yeah. Is that bad?” I said.
“Well, yeah. Christmas is the day Christ was born.” She said, sitting on the edge of the bed.
When she said that I couldn’t help but laugh. She waited a moment for me to finish.
“Are you kidding me?” I asked.” We are the very thing that Christ damns. Why would we celebrate the day he was born?”
“Because it’s fun and we can be drunk off our a**.” She sad as if it was a no brainer.
I shook my head and started to dig through my dresser drawers for suitable clothing.
“What? You don’t think that’s a good idea?” She asked.
“No. I don’t think it’s a good idea. You’ve never seen me drunk. Let me tell you. It’s not pretty.” I said, pulling out the leather outfit that Jiye made me. She smiled at seeing it.
“Honestly? I think seeing that would be hilarious.” She said as she stood there and watched me.
“We shall see.” I said, waiting for her to get the hint that I wanted her to leave. She looked at me expectantly.
I sighed. “I have to shower. Could you wait for me outside in the living room?” I asked.
“Yeah. Sure.” She said, walking outside.
I shut the door and shook my head. Sometimes I wonder about her. I went into the bathroom and started the shower. I undressed and climbed in. The normal thing for anyone to do is to think.
Tonight would be the night we engage and plan war against the slayers. It’s a known fact that every vampire has a gun on him or her somewhere. Me. I have at least two now. I’ll have to get Lector to get cartridges. After we declare war, many of the other vampires will do their own rituals for upcoming death. Even though we’re immortals and can’t die from sickness or natural death, we still can die from sunlight and a shot to the head or heart. With the silver bullets they won’t need to aim for our head or our hearts. We’re as good as dead when it shatters inside us.
I sighed when I stepped out of the shower in a towel. I dried my hair and started ot bind it back into a braid.
My mind wondered back to Alderen. Wonder how he manages with his wings. I imagined myself in a pair of them. I smiled at the thought.
I dressed quickly and ran out of the bathroom to arouse Alderen. He was already up and dressed. So was Davey.
“I’m surprised that we have any water left with the way you take showers.” He said as I looked at them both. Davey seemed to be copying Alderen’s style. Black pants and shirt. Hair gelled back.
I shook my head and chuckled. He smiled, pulling a trench coat over his wings. Davey pouted when he noticed that he didn’t have trench coat.
“Are you ready for tonight?” H asked, looking down at me with is beautiful eyes.
I stumbled on my words when I stared back into them. “Y-yes.”
“Alright. That’s good. You have a plan right?” He said, finally blinking and releasing me from their grasp.
“Uh huh.” I said, blinking slightly and moving to sit on the bed. Alderen turned to look at me again.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“Me? Oh! Yes. I’m fine.” I said, avoiding his eyes, so not to get trapped in them again.
‘That was strange. That never happened before. Why did I just get lost in his eyes like that?’ I thought to myself, once again forgetting that Alderen was a master of reading minds.
“Because I am just so irresistible.” He said, smirking.
I laughed slightly and shook my head. “Maybe.” I said.
“What? You don’t think so?” He asked.
“I know so.” I said.
“Good.” He said, finally realizing Davey was discouraged. “What?” He asked.
“I want a coat like you.” He said, pouting.
“I’ll ask Jiye to make you one.” He said, placing a gun I his pocket. I looked at him, curious.
“I decided to try it out.” He said, shrugging.
I nodded and headed out. I walked to the nearest window. A smile crossed my ruby lips. Rain. My favorite form of weather.
I turned back around as Alderen and Davey walked out. H e looked at me as if asking what the weather is. I told him before he could. “Rain. My favorite.”
He smiled. “I know that only too well.”
We met Jiye and Lector outside of the apartments. Lector had tons of boxes on the sidewalk.
“How are we going to fit these?” I asked.
He gave me a smile. “Never showed you my f250 did I?”
He walked into the alley way and pulled out a monster of a truck. I stared up at it and grinned.
“Nice. Very nice.” I complimented.
This truck was a dark red. Mounted on top was a large revolving gun. What I would do to be able to use it.
We loaded the boxes into the back and we got into our cars and truck.
We drove off to The Rose Bud.
Chapter seven
We arrived at The Rose Bud, only to be greeted with a group big enough to cover the whole block. We were in awe by how many people were there for the war. Some of them weren’t even vampires. There were magic users and other immortals. We even had help from demons. These slayers didn’t have a chance.
People parted for our cars. They had to part for the truck. It rumbled and growled to them. Lector seemed to be having the time of his life.
We stopped and I got out. I looked around at the waiting faces. I felt a hand on my shoulder. I looked up at Alderen.
“Go ahead.” He said.
I climbed up on the roof of Lector’s truck. I stared down at everyone. I knew this day had to come. I took a deep breath.
“Tonight we rebel against those who have hunted us for centuries. Tonight is the night we rid ourselves of those who can’t let us live a life of peace. Tonight,” My voice lowered a little. “We end this.” I raised it. “Are you ready?” There was a loud up roar.
They all crowded around the truck as Lector handed out weapons and ammunition. I watched everyone get ready. Men and women. Even children.
An hour later. One in the morning. We were ready. We waited for them to come. A loud call was heard. I looked to the roof.
“Slayers! Just around the bend!” Called the beefy door man from the roof.
I adjusted the bullet proof vest I wore under the leather outfit. Lector had given it to me as we prepared.
Everything was quiet. Soon we heard the sound of thousands of voices come rising from around the bend.
Lector came behind the large revolving gun and gave Jiye the thumbs up. She put it in drive, but kept her foot on the brakes. The engine roared, but was soon drowned out by the calls of the slayers and my army.
They stopped. Now everything was silent. No one moved. I was the first to speak.
“This is your last warning! Stand down and leave or prepare to die!” I yelled.
Delano’s voice ran out. “I’d rather die!”
“So be it.” I said. Now!”
Both teams surged forward. Gun fire rang out, but the roar of the monster truck over powered them. Soon the large gun sounded off alongside the manic laughter of Lector.
I jumped off and climbed to the roof. My main objective was to find Delano.
Speak of the devil and the devil shall come. Delano’s figure appeared on the roof.
A magic user’s fire rain fell from the sky. Soon the roof was ablaze.
One shot. Just one shot. I pulled my gun out and took aim, but it was too late.
“Boo.” Delano’s voice hissed my ear as his gun went off into my back.
I feel forward and caught myself on my hands and knees. I swung around and caught his legs against mine. He fell back.
I jumped up and aimed at his head. “This is for my family.” The gun shot could be heard for miles.
***************
A year after the war, everything went back to the way it should have been. The slayers retreated and soon after made an agreement to leave us alone.
Alderen and I married in the winter. Everyone showed up for it.
Jiye found someone during the war and they couldn’t be any happier. Lector is still a hopeless romantic.
And Davey. Davey became Alderen and I’s adoptive son.
We are still creating a world where everyone can still co-exist without wanting to kill the other.
I, Amilyia Lotys Hawkins, avenged my parents. I changed the world.
