You have been taught that there is something wrong with you and that you are imperfect, but there isn't and you're not.
The Process of Socialization Teaches Us:
- to assume that there is something wrong with us - to search ourselves for flaws - judge the flaws when we find them - hate ourselves for who we are - punish ourselves until we change We have been taught that this is what good people do.
The Process of Socialization Does Not Teaches Us:
- to love ourselves for our goodness - to appreciate ourselves for who we are - to trust ourselves - to have confidence in our abilities - to look to our heart for guidance
We have been taught that this is 'self centered'.
By the time 'socialization' is complete, most of us hold onto an unshakable belief that our only hope of being good is to punish ourselves when we are bad.
We believe beyond doubt that without punishment bad will triumph over good.
This is what society needs. A better look at ourselves. Today, mirrors are weapons. There are new themes made made up of this horrible type of society. Anorexia, and we can't forget the famous label 'Emo'. I honestly want to read this book, and while people may think she is self centered, she is completely right. Everyone is striving to be 'beautiful' and 'fit'. But what is? Back in the day, beauty was just knowing you are beautiful, and fit, was just being able to be comfortable with our body. People saying 'I'm Ugly','I'm fat' are just stuck in judgment. What will they say, how they will look at me, they will think of me, what he thinks, what she thinks, what everyone thinks. What everyone assumes.
And I'm tired of it. I'm tired of thinking about what everyone else is thinking. And the only reason people still cling on this is because everyone knows that it will be a long evolution before people will stop thinking like this, or they won't accept it, a future where anorexia is a foreign language, and where liposuction would be a crime. Hell, Maybe I won't even be able to live to see it, or maybe no one will.
