Well yesterday just sucked. I finally had to put Brown Bear to sleep. She was declining already before I left to Japan, and when I came back she was in horrible shape. She had numerous tumors throughout her body, but the major one was growing under her left ear. The tumor became so large that her jaw was completely forced all the way to the right, so that her teeth bottom teeth were always outside of her mouth, on her cheak. It was absolutely horrible. And she had lost a ton of weight; she was so frail and weak that she could barely move. It was miserable to put her down, but it seemed cruel to keep her alive. I can't believe she made it as long as she did. Of course I told my mother to put her down if she was suffering while I was gone, but naturally my mother wouldn't do it. I would have rathered that she had put her down while I was gone, even though I would have been devastated, rather than let her suffer. But no, my mother didn't. Not only that, but Baby also has pretty progresed cancer, so I know I'm going to have to put her down in a couple of weeks too. Sometimes I wonder why I have pets. I keep saying I'm going to get a parrot, those live over a hundred years. On a good note though, we saw the Vet Tech who adopted Chunky Monkey, and she said he was doing great. He has got to be the luckiest rat in the world. The tech said that if we asked she would bring him in the next time we came so we could see him. Of course I don't know if that would ever actually happen...even so, it was nice to hear some good news.

So now I'm left with three ratties, soon to be two. I hate this, as soon as they grow up and squirm there way into my heart they die. On the same note, on Friday (the 13, go figure) it will be one year since I put Ebony down. I can't believe its been a whole year. Of course that will also be one year since I got Whiskers and Bandit. They've grown up to be nice fat rats. Though I still think Whiskers isn't all there in the head.

Perhaps next time I should go with pet rocks...
