... WAS M*THERF*CKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was honestly one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in my short life on this planet Earth! All the bands (at least the ones I saw) were frickin' incredible, and every expectation that I had for this thing has been met! I WILL NEVER FORGET 12/2 FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE, AS HONESTLY ONE OF THE BEST DAYS OF MY FREAKING LIFE!!!!!
... ok, well, that's basically the concert in a nutshell... but seriously, I have to go in depth with this, so I'll tell you all my whole day in the form of when it happened during each band. Let's start the reminiscing...
Providence (local band): ... I didn't see them. My mom was late getting the snacks, so I was stuck at home playing Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and cursing my luck. sweatdrop
Mutemath: see above sweatdrop
The Starting Line: I arrived late to see them, but from what I saw... wow, they're good. Thankfully, I found them when they were playing "Island (Float Away)", so it was a very nice way to start off an awesome day. cool
Saosin: I saw these guys from beginning to end, even though The Almost started about halfway through Saosin's bit (both bands were on separate stages, Providence through Saosin at the Discover New Rock stage, and The Almost through The Used on the Main Stage). Saosin did very well live, and they really got the crowd going... seriously, crowd-surfing as far as the eye can see. xd Ending their bit with "You're Not Alone" was a hell of a good decision. cool
The Almost: As stated earlier, I was watching Saosin while The Almost was on-stage. I was only able to hear them play "Say This Sooner", but from what I heard, they were pretty good. 3nodding
Silversun Pickups: This was one of the bands I wanted to see most at NBT7, and I certainly was not disappointed with what I saw. Starting off with "Well Thought-Out Twinkles" and ending with "Lazy Eye", they were just plain awesome... even though the vocalist sounded like he was on helium. xd What was most awesome about the ending was that the vocalist (also a guitarist) held the last note for about 5 minutes while running the rows of the crowd, tailed closely by fans and camera people. He ran right past my row at one point, so I was able to get some nice pics. xd All in all, it was frickin' awesome. cool
Against Me!: Of all the bands I saw... these were my least favorite, but just because I say that doesn't mean they were bad. In fact, they were quite good live. I couldn't help but sing along to "Thrash Unreal", because that song is just too cool. cool Oh, and it was before they played that I got a Jimmy Eat World t-shirt, which I'm still wearing proudly as I type this. mrgreen
Flyleaf: Before I talk about Flyleaf, I will say that I had 2 major surprises at this concert. Flyleaf was one of them. I honestly don't know where to start... this band is just wonderful live! People in the stands were up cheering and rooting, the guitarists were all over the place, the lead singer (I only know her first name; Lacey, I think) has an incredible voice, their whole performance was just phenomenal! By the time they ended, I was seriously stoked for whatever was coming next. Flyleaf was easily one of the best bands there, in my opinion, and I can't wait to see them play again, whenever that may be. cool
Coheed & Cambria: After seeing this band, all I can say is... wow... just wow... this band is awesome with their instruments. Of course, the only song I know by them is "The Running Free", but it sounded exactly like it was on the radio, for the most part. My dad even said: "these are real musicians." If my dad (who's recently taken a liking to the music I listen to) makes a comment on how great a band is, then dammit, they're great! rofl
Paramore: Remember those major surprises I was talking about earlier? Here's #2: Paramore. They were just incredible! Haley (lead singer) has a beautiful voice, the other band members played extremely well, and all of this together made up another one of the best bands that played at NBT7. You should've seen the crowd when they played! People dancing in their seats, crowd-surfing going on the Pit, everyone and their mothers singing as the Haley sung; it was damn near unparalled! Honestly, for a new band, Paramore is really going places... and to think the band members aren't even of drinking age yet! eek All in all, of the bands with female vocalists (Paramore, Coheed, and Flyleaf), Paramore was easily my favorite. Hearing this band seriously made my f*cking day... day, not night. Night's coming up soon. 3nodding
Chevelle: The funny thing about this band is that I knew who they were longer than I really knew I knew them... unknowingly... anyway, I heard a lot of songs that are actually favorites of mine being played... although I still haven't a damn clue what the names are. sweatdrop Anyway, this was another great live band, and the ending of their performance with their new single "I Get It" was just magnificent! cool
Angels & Airwaves: Let me start out by saying this: Tom DeLong (I doubt I spelled the last name right) has quite a potty-mouth. rofl But I quickly digress. AVA is already an incredible band, with members from Blink 182, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Boxcar Racer, but hearing them live made them even more so. They are frickin' awesome live! Delong made a great speech before one of their last songs, about how they wanted this band, unlike his other bands before, to have a powerful message... a message that my mind is deciding not to remember at the moment, but the 5 or so F-bombs in said speech really made it powerful! xd
Rise Against: Ah, Rise Against. I was quite happy with their performance especially. Why? "Ready To Fall", "The Good Left Undone", and a powerful closing with "Prayer of the Refugee", that's frickin' why! This was another one of the bands I just couldn't keep myself from singing along with. Hearing them play "Ready To Fall", even though the song is a few years old and nearly dwarfed by other great songs, was just fantastic! cool
Jimmy Eat World: This, my friends, THIS WAS THE BAND I CAME TO SEE AT NEXT BIG THING 7!!! After hearing "Sweetness" for hundreds of hours on end, coupled with a crapload of other great songs, I just had to see them in concert! I had very high hopes for this band: that they would be the best band there, that they would play an unforgettable show, and that they would play "Sweetness", my favorite song by them and my favorite song ever, last or near to last. My hopes were realized. Combined playings of "Big Casino", "Work", "Bleed American", "Pain", heart "Sweetness" heart , and "The Middle" (as well as other great songs that, well, I don't know the name of), all played with the most energy I have heard all f*cking day made Jimmy Eat World, in my opinion, the best band of NBT7! Them ending their performance with "The Middle" made so many people in the crowd happy, as basically everyone stood up, sang, and thrust their hands intot he air... me being one of them! This is the band that contributed most to making yesterday one of the most unforgettable days of my life, and dammit, I want to see them play again! scream
The Used: ... I didn't see them perform. It was 10:00 at night and I had school the next day... but that's not why I left. My dad was tired and wanted to go home... and he was basically my ride, so yeah, I had to go before I could see The Used play. I heard it was a great performance, though... but even I don't think they could have beat out the jaw-dropping awesomeness of Jimmy Eat World. cool
Holy s***, I just spent a half an hour typing this thing out... as you can see, I had one hell of a day yesterday... a day I'll never forget. It really is a whole new experience to see a band playing live on-stage than to see them on TV or hear them on the radio. I felt like I actually knew them in those 10 or so hours there. Well, one thing's for sure, though: I seriously can't wait until Next Big Thing 8! mrgreen
