I'm pretty much giving up on Herr Coco. That was just a side activity, but really gaia doesn't really matter to me much anymore. Nobody really makes much of an effort to talk to me unless I talk to them first. The one person on gaia that I want to talk to most won't return my PMs or IMs. Anyway that's not what this journal is about.



Lately there have been several shootings going on. As strange as it might sound I think gun restrictions should be loosened up. On March 25th there was an armed robbery at a Burger King in Florida. Unknown to the robber one of the customers had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and brought his gun with him. The man with the CCW permit was seriously injured, but survived while the robber was killed. It could have ended worse with innocents killed.

Now on April 3rd a Vietnamese man walked into a New York immigration office and killed several innocent people. An immigration office is a federal building so firearms are not allowed. Think of it this way. If you are going to go into a building with the intention to kill would you change your mind just because you see a no gun sign? You probably wouldn't. If anything the sign says you've got an easy target. Realistically there is no guarantee that if guns were allowed that there would have been a CCW carrying hero like at the Burger King, but a slim chance is still better than no chance at all.

Banning guns probably won't do anything to stop it either. If you were going to use guns to commit a crime would you rather get it legally or illegally? To get it legally you have to have a background check, go through registration, and all other kinds of red tape. You can just go buy an illegal weapon off the streets or go steal one without all the legal trouble. Besides, an illegal weapon is harder to trace than a legal one. Actually I had to write a persuasive essay on gun control that included a survey. 90% of those surveyed said they would rather get an illegal gun if they were going to use it to commit a crime.

Some anti gun people will use the line that all illegal guns start as legal guns. Sadly this is true, but the same could be said with other items. Methamphetamine starts out as a bunch of legal ingredients. Home made bombs start off as legal ingredients. Should we ban all the ingredients that could be used to make bombs and meth? I'm not sure what all goes into making meth or bombs, but I'm sure we'd be surprised if all ingredients to make either one were banned.
