"You are invited!"
I saw the image on my email screen and opened it up. I realized who it was from and deleted it right away. Webcam opened up on my screen and of course he was there. He wasn't looking at the screen right away so I made him.
"Daniel, look." I said in a calm normal voice. He finally did look and I saw his face turn into dissappointment; fake or not I didn't care because I was flicking him off and I was the one causing it. "Shove that up her a**." Then I exited the webcam and got off the computer.
I quickly went to the bedroom and shook Tim. "Hey, get up. I know it's early but please get up." I kept shaking him until he woke up.
"What's wrong?" He asked a bit confused. When his eyes finally adjusted and he saw my face he knew what happened. "He tried to be friends with you again didn't he?"
I nod and snuggle close to him. He strokes my head, then I look at him and tell him what else he did. "They are getting married. He invited us to attend but that's just a trap waiting to happen."
He nods then thinks. "I think we should surprise them Kayla, I know you don't want to but there's something I think you need to do. It involves you crushed dreams." He said in a low, depressing tone.
"I don't want to go." I said in the softest voice I couldn't even hear myself.
"Where is it at Kayla?" He asked me as he stroked my hair.
"C-Chicago..." I choked on a sob.
"What day?" He interrogated.
"This weekend." I answered very softly.
"Then we'll go." He said and that was that. Next thing I know it's the weekend and I'm putting on a white silk dress. It puffs out at the ends and has a big bow on the side of it around the waist.
"I don't want to go somewhere that'll waist my time. I'll never get that time back." I told Tim in a last attempt to avoid going. He shook his head and put on the finishing touches to his suit. Then he looked at me and grabbed some roses.
Blue roses...
He wrapped them carefully around my neck and arms, and my dress but not my legs. Luckily they were thornless but they were very much real.
"Why do I need these?" I asked him. "Where did you get these?"
"I came across them. They really show you." He pushed my bangs back gently then kissed me soothingly on the lips. His hand caressing my cheek gently as I melt in his tender embrace.
When it's over in mere seconds I just gaze up at him. Then we both walk out the door and drive to Chicago. Lake Shore Dr. Buckingham Fountain.
"That b*****d took the place I wanted to get married at..." I cringed at the sight of people when I saw the groom standing proud right in front of the magnificent fountain that he sure as hell knows he doesn't belong there with Jessica.
"Calm down Kayla. We just gotta wait okay?" Tim said as we parked the car. We watched to see them all gather. I finally spotted two little girls jump out of a limo. They looked our way but didn't really see us. We quickly hopped out of the car and hid behind a bush. I was the least bit amused by this ceremony.
We were very quiet and we waited for the bride, Jessica, to be stationed next to the groom, Daniel. Then we appeared in the audience where Daniel could see me. He didn't notice me because he was busy gazing against his "to be the perfect match" bride. I can see right through him and know that they are having a hard time. He's such an idiot for getting her pregnant at 17! He's also an a** for using me and lying to me...God I am so angry here but I have to stay!
Daniel gazed over the crowd then spotted me. I saw his eyes blink to see if I was actually there. It looked like he grinned but I had my arms crossed over my chest and I was thinking what would happen next.
"Do you take Daniel to be your lawfully wedded husband? Whom you shall care for in sickness and in health?" the priest asked.
"I do." Jessica said.
The priest repeated the question to Daniel except he said Jessica and wife instead of Daniel and husband.
He hesitated and then I knew he wasn't sure of what he was doing anymore. He was falling. And I was watching as he struggled with himself. If he said I do he'd have to be committed to her and he's not sure he's ready for that. He's over thinking the past. I just laugh inside.
Takes one to know one b***h. Should've listened to me then you little ********. I swore in my head.
Jessica was actually amazed when she didn't hear him say I do yet. She looked at his face and saw what I saw and looked embarrassed. She looked out in the crowd and spotted me.
Could she be? Oh yes she is! I thought in a snobbish way. It's all her fault I know it. I thought in a mocking tone of her thoughts. I pretended not to notice and finally Daniel said "I don't."
Haha! The look on her face was totally worth seeing. She looked like she was gonna smack the crap outta him! I thought in my head.
She walked down the steps where her kids came and comforted her. Daniel's mom went right up to him and scolded him. Then she followed his gaze which fell on me. I noticed they were coming towards me and Tim stood right beside me. He was going to be right next to me no matter what.
"Kayla? Is that you? The one that, well you know." Tanya said to me in a sincere voice. Daniel just looked.
I nod. "Kayla Roberta Storme." I said and bowed politely. To Tanya of course. Daniel doesn't deserve any kindness from me.
"You've grown so beautifully since you were 13. I'm sorry about all of this." Tanya said. She looked so sad that I had to see this wedding. She knew I was still angry at Daniel and that something that he ******** up was to get a girl pregnant. She knew all that I felt back then now.
"Their names are Denise and Elizabeth." I heard his voice. The one who betrayed me. I felt myself hold back a sob.
"Excuse me?" I look at him with anger so intense he winces.
"We named them after our....your..." He tried to say it but I knew he was grinning inside.
"You ******** this all up and now you're trying to make me jealous? What's wrong with you? I for one am done with this bullshit." I said. I was aware his mother was watching and knew she felt it was right of me to say whatever to him.
"Is it not working?" He asked in a tone so mockingly and casual that I smacked him.
"You never learn until you're on the spot. You are such a d**k head. You betrayed two people now." I said. Then I saw the two girl run up to me. They looked up at me in amazement instead of a mood that looked worried about their father. They tugged on my pantyhose, signaling me to talk to them face to face. So I knelt down beside them and asked a question.
"You both are still beautiful...you wouldn't remember me. Are you two happy?"
"We do remember you. We're your broken dreams. We could've been yours if he hadn't chosen another that he just let down. We know you won't go back and we give you every reason to hate him. We would've liked to be your children instead of Jessica's but we aren't...We love mommy but...you were always better. You were rational and understanding. You know how to fix problems or avoid conflicts...and now we are in this impoverished state because of Daddy. If it were you we could've been born later and not be in such an impoverished state."
I couldn't believe what they were saying and I'm sure Daniel wanted to smack them for it. Only he realized that they were telling the truth. They looked up at Tim and pulled on his pants; telling him to kneel as well.
He did so and looked at the two of them then at me.
"Would you be willing to take care of us if we needed you?" Elizabeth asked Tim.
"Would you be the mother you were supposed to be? Even if we aren't your kids would you become our mother?" Denise asked me. I hugged her tightly and looked at Tim. He nodded at me and I hugged Elizabeth as well. "We will. We'll be there if you need us. Don't be afraid to come to us." I told them both. Daniel looked frightened that his kids knew me and our past. He also looked angry that they were asking his ex to take care of them and that they were saying such rude things about him and Jessica. Tanya knelt down beside me and patted my back. "Maybe you guys would like to spend the day together?" She asked appointing Denise, Elizabeth, Tim, and I. I nodded and so did the girls. Tim smiled as we stood up.
Jessica came running over then and glared at me. "Daniel what are you doing? What's wrong with you? Don't you love me?"
Daniel looked her in the eyes then lowered his head.
"So you don't know? Jeez sounds familiar. Oh yeah, I remember now. You two really gotta think about this stuff cause the warning was clear before. You are just understanding now? Learn how to figure this stuff out on your own." I told them. I was angry at how they didn't listen and now they realized they should've. I won't help them if they come back.
"Denise, Elizabeth? Where are you going?" She asked as she ignored me.
"With the mom we should've had, and the Dad that matches right." They said, pointing out Tim and me.
"That's stupid. Come on you two. What has this crazy lady said to make you think such things?"
"Kayla didn't say anything. It was them who told us." Tanya answered. "She's right. You two do need to learn."
Jessica looked really angry then. Betrayed by her children and love in the same day don't mix. "You can't take them unlawfully you *****!"
"Mommy, you have no right to call her something she's not. You will never accept the truth for what it is. We want to go with her. We chose to go with her. We asked to go with her so we're going." Denise said in a low, annoyed tone.
That's when I saw Jessica give up. She gave in to it all and let us leave. I can tell she really believed me now. Daniel wouldn't budge but he would in a few days. Tim and I took each other's hand and one of the girl's hands. We walked to the car and drove away.
