For those of you who dont know me (which should be most of you), I'm a huge fan of the T.V. show Megaman. No, not that crappy, dubbed Megaman NT Warrior that 4kids Entertainment spewed out for kids WB. I mean the origional Megaman, the one I was watching when I was a kid. You know, where Megaman was a robot programed to protect the world from the evil Dr. Wiley and his band of evil robots, including his own brother Protoman? Yes? No? Well anyway, I recently came across the DVD's of the old series on Netflixs. I decided to show it to my little, NT Warrior obsessed, brother and I got him hooked! Now he likes it even more than I do! Booya!
So, am I saying that all remakes of old thing suck in comparison? Heavens no! A remake can be just as good or even better than the origional if done properly. What I am saying that remakes are shadowing thier predicecors in todays world. My brother would not have even know about Megaman's gaming heritage if I had not told him it had be around for 15+ years! Pokemon is now running it's what, Seventh season? And its made billions in games alone that are basicly just bigger and better versions of the original 2! But I know that it would not be anywhere near where it is now without is first season that took the world by storm or the games would have stopped at red and blue if they had not been as full of exitement and adventure as they still are today! Remember Speed Racer? It's back! It's back with better animation and cooler effects! But the newer episodes can't replace the spots in the hearts that were burned with the treds of Speed's tires back in the 80's. That shitty cartoon on Kids WB, Lunitics Unleased, gives a space age makeover to the origional Loony Toons that our parents where watching when they were little!
So whats the point? My point is that we need to make sure the classics don't fade into the backround! These originals gave us many things throught the years. I still remember running over to my neighbors house to watch Sonic the Hedgehog with thier son and then the two of us going out back and playing out the story all afternoon. Now, my brother watches the new Sonic X on The Fox Box, and I have shown him the stuff I was watching at his age and he loves that too! I gave him the chance to make new memories with my old-school classic shows! Again, remakes are not bad, they simply should not remain in the light while thier old form dissolves in to the dark. See if your kid siblings are doing this themselves. If they are, rent the original copies of the show and show them the roots of the shows the love today and mabye they will do the same to thier kids someday.
The true classics never die! Be they shows, games, movies, music or what have you, they will live on, so long as we of today continue to let them do so!
Now if you excuse me, Megaman and Protoman are fighting on top of a train and I would like to see how it turns out! (Hey, if you know which episode this is, tell me and if you are correct, I will give you a 100 gold prize!)
Untill we meet Again,
