MY OWN SECRETS....
More of his past. The first hunt.
The black nineteen sixty seven camaro kicked up dirt as it did a doughnut off the road in a sharp turn. For a few seconds it balanced on two wheels two inches off the ground. Angel had willed it to not flip over. He couldn’t afford the car to flip over. Blood matted his forehead streaming all the way down to his nose. His blood caked bangs were pushed off to the side and out of his eyes. Gripping the leather covered wheel he’d make another sharp turn. Again willing the car to not flip over. He grit his teeth when the side view mirror on the passenger side shattered after the sound of a shot gun rang out. Angel looked into the rear view mirror. He wouldn’t be looking out from the shattered back glass however at the one that was pursuing him. Instead, his eyes fell on the one year old passenger. Strapped safely to his car seat. The child smiled when he spotted his father’s eyes looking at him from the mirror. Angel wouldn’t return the smile, but instead look forward again. A blue baseball cap covered his brown curly locks. Blue matching overalls with the picture of a baseball in a mitt sewn into the front covered his body along with a stained white undershirt. Shoes that were once white now stood stained on his feet with white socks that were just as dirty. It felt as if no matter how much the dhampir willed the car to go faster, the other would catch up within a matter of moments. The back tire to the left side gave out. Causing the camaro to jerk and swerve violently after yet another shot gun boom rang out. The car ran over a few cacti as Angel tried to regain control of the only means for escape once more.

Earlier…..

The warm summer day was bright enough to make you want to crawl into a cool area and grab a just as cold drink to quench your throbbing dry throat. Angel stopped at a rough looking bar in a modern looking town that had that old time wild west feel mixed in. It was the weekend. When it was the weekend, it meant that he would have his only son Sage for two days till it was time to return him to his mother. Angel felt that he had better things to do. But, do to the signed agreement between he and Chziu after they finally split, he had no choice but to pick up the kid and spend time with him. The bell hanging above the double swinging doors jingled when Angel stepped in. Already, a few eyes fell on him. There were plenty of active people in here. Various ages and sizes going on with their daily lives. The black sunglasses covering his eyes shifted their oily tint when he nodded his head. Lowering them slightly so that he can peer over them more clearly. He wore a new leather jacket that already looked like it had seen it’s rough days. Dark blue pants that shaped his a** nicely, but left enough space for his crotch to breath freely. That way, he wouldn’t be singing soprano whenever he had to squat down and pick up whatever his kid may knock over. Sage had chocolate ice cream stained and smeared around his mouth and cheeks. Some of it had gotten onto the white undershirt he wore under his overalls. His trademark black belt lazily hung around his waist with a bag clasped to the side. A silver cross, shinned to a mirror like perfection hung around his neck. With every step he took the heavy looking boots hardly made a sound.

He can feel the eyes on him the more he stepped inside. Some he could tell disliked him already. A cocky grin spread across his lips. Half of the others that glanced his way would be full of lust. Womens tongues slipping out to glide over their thickly placed lipstick on their lips. Sitting down on a stool that wasn’t occupied by anyone, he would place Sage down on the counter. Knocking lightly on the surface to get the bar tender’s attention. The woman behind the counter turned around. Short light hair that curled into tiny swirls reached down to her shoulders in a spread. Beautiful light cocoa colored skin, and big brown eyes. Unlike the others her lipstick wasn’t thickly laid on her lips. Curvy body, decent bust, and legs that looked like a whole lot of inviting. “What can I get you?” She’d ask and tap her pink painted nails against the counter lightly. “How’s about a drink for starters?” He knew that a pleasing shiver was sent down her spine. She wasn’t going to be easy though. He could tell she was the kind of woman that didn’t take nonsense from any man that tried to be slick and cocky with her. “What kind.” She’d ask while leaning against the counter slightly. Her other hand resting on her hip. “Something with ice in it. Whiskey.” He’d reply coolly. An elderly woman shook her head and gathered her purse as she got up and made her exit. An older man eating a sandwich a few stools down shook his head and mumbled something under his breath. The bell above the double doors jingled again. The bar tender turned around. Angel pushed his shades upwards with a finger as he watched her with interest. Someone sat down in the stool next to his own. Sage reached out and took hold of Angel’s cross. He’d quickly take hold of his son’s hand and force the cross out. “No.” He’d say sternly. “That’s a cute kid.” The male that sat down next to Angel said. Angel hardly gave him a glance. “Thanks.” The bar tender placed Angel’s drink down in front of him. Glancing from over his glasses he’d give her a wink and reach for his drink. “What can I get you?” She’d ask the elder man that sat down next to the dhampir and his son. “Oh some brandy pleas. No ice.” Angel took the first sip of his drink and chewed on a piece of ice. Sage reached out for the glass, but Angel pulled it away. “How old is he?” The elder male asked. “One.” Angel replied in a drone like tone. He wasn’t happy that someone else was asking about Sage instead of the pretty bartender.

“I had a baby son once.” Here we go..Angel thought. “Sweet boy. Would be a little older then yourself right now.” The old man didn’t touch his drink yet when it was handed to him. “Died though.” Angel began chewing on another piece of ice. “My condolences.” The elder picked up his drink at last. Swirled it, then drank it down quickly in one gulp. “Ayeah, damned vampires got him.” From behind his sunglasses Angel glanced over once. The male was at least fifty years of age. Maybe a little more. Short snowy white hair with an face that looked like it needed a good shaving within a few days time. “Names Doglotto by the way.” Doglotto turned to face Angel fully. “I’ve gatta go.” Angel stood while keeping a hand on on Sage’s side so that the boy wouldn’t’ fall down. Pulling out some cash he’d put it down on the counter. “Keep the change.” He’d say to the bar tender and pick his son up. Angel calmly walked out of the establishment and headed straight for his car. Opening the back door he’d place Sage inside. Strapping the boy in securely he’d close the door. The moment he turned around however, a sharp pain crossed his face. His back hit the car as he barely dodged a poison tipped silver knife. Moving away from the car he’d wipe the spreading blood away from his eyes. Pushing his bangs back to see who the assailant is. Doglotto stood there with the large bowie knife in hand. Words didn’t need to be exchanged between the two as they faced off. Angel removed the now broken sunglasses and dropped them to the ground. His hand touching the stinging sensation that would become the first scar he’d ever receive.

Doglotto jumped for an assault again. Angel was ready, and dodged. Once the knife swiped down he’d lift a knee and nail Doglotto right in the ribs. The older male grunted. Angel’s leg lifted again. Falling down hard so that the heel connected against his back near the shoulder blades. Once he toppled down, the dhampir would be in his car in a flash. The camaro took off. A few miles out of town Angel thought they were ok. Sage began to whine. Angel reached down for his rattle, and an ear shattering sound broke through. The back windshield broke as a bullet flew through. Angel almost lost control of the camaro as it swerved on the road. He quickly looked into the side view mirror long enough to see Doglotto in a yellow ford gran torino car. He held a police riot shot gun in hand while slightly leaned out the window. Again another shot fired off. Taking out the back light of Angel’s own car. He didn’t have a means for retaliation against this man. The only thing the dhampir could do, is will his car to go faster and keep from flipping over. Again one of the back lights were taken out. Sage looked around confused and screwed up his face ready to cry. Angel looked in the rear view mirror the moment his son did. After this day, he swore to never do this again. Sage’s face would relax a little. The tears that threatened to fall would dry up fast as he began to feel calm in the chaos. Briefly hypnotizing his son he’d look to the road again and make a sharp turn. Doing a doughnut in the dirt off the graveled path. The car shot forward, passing the other and giving Angel a brief glance at Doglotto’s face. He’ll never forget that face for the rest of his living days. He willed the car faster. Doglotto’s own almost vanishing off in the distance till it began to grow closer again. His teeth grit the moment the passenger’s side mirror blew to pieces. He glanced in the rear view mirror at Sage.

Sage smiled, but the smile wouldn’t be returned. Angel looked forward. The back tire would be blown out after Doglotto fired another shot. Causing Angel to almost loose control. Some cacti would be smashed in his car’s path as it headed for a cliff. Dirt picked up. Blinding Doglotto’s view momentarily. When the dirt cloud cleared, Doglott’s feet hit the breaks hard. The camaro reared off the cliff’s edge. Sage’s baseball cap flitted to the ground before him. Sounds of heavy metal crashed all the way down. Fallowed shortly by an explosion. Doglotto walked out of his car, and over to the edge of the cliff. Down below the dangerously rocky fall, the camaro was on fire. Nothing but thrashed pieces down below. Something didn’t sit right with him however. Turning around he’d walk to the fallen baby’s baseball cap and pick it up. Slowly turning it in his hand, and tucking it away. He’d climb into his car and sit there for a full twenty minutes before taking off. In the shadows of a crevasse. Any normal being would be struggling right now to hang on for dear life to what little piece of the wall they could hang onto while trying to balance a child in their arm. But Angel wasn’t one of those humans. While holding Sage in one arm against his body, he’d have his fingers easily digging into the rocky and dirt slanted surface with his toes being used as balance. Even through his boots, he found it easy to find some form of grip. Sage awoke from his relaxed trance and looked around confused. The hand that held onto the cliff side reached up to the edge above. Slowly he’d release his toes and back from the wall. The first thing he’d do was grip the back of Sage’s overalls and lift the boy up first. Once he was safely on the ground, Angel lifted himself up quickly in a swing and land on his feet. Picking up Sage he’d hold his son to himself again while looking down at the burning pile below. He almost died today. His son, almost died today. Looking down at the child in his arms with a blood stained face, he’d feel a sense of relief as the boy looked back up at his father and smiled.
