Chapter 1
"I can't believe we're going back at eight o' clock... You had a list, wouldn't you remember?" Len sighed. Rin giggled in embarrassment. "I skipped it by accident!" she said. "You checked over it again thought.... THREE TIMES." he said. She stayed silent. They had gone to run some urgent errands for Lily -their mom- and Rin had accidently missed one while reading Lily's list. Now they had to head all the way back to the market at 8 PM. Just then, a faint sound reached Len's ears. He stopped. What was it? Where was it? WHO was it? "What's wrong?" Rin looked back at him. He stayed silent, staring at the ground, listening. "...Len...?" Rin turned around to face him completely. He shook his head. Probably a late-night baby bird, or some animal in the forest near here. "Nothing" he finally said "Never mind". Rin stared at him for another second and shrugged. "What ever you say..." she turned and started walking again.
There it was again. Len stopped. Definitely heard it this time. It was a girl - yelling. No, screaming. Rin stopped at about the same time and looked around. She wheeled around to him. "Did you hear that?" she asked. He nodded. "It's coming from near the market! Come on!" He started running towards the market. Rin followed. "Wait!" she yelled. "I have a dress on!" she said. He kept running. They reached the market gates. He knelt down in the shadow of the iron gates, looking around. The girl had stopped screaming, but he could hear muffled talking, and crying. Then he saw her. She spilled out of one of the alley ways like water. What made him think of the simile was her hair. It was a turquoise green, a blue-ish. It was sprawled out on the ground, but he guessed it at least went down to her knees. She stood and began to run in their direction. Some older men filed out of the alley and chased after her. The girl's expression was fear. Len stood and waved his arms in the air. "Hey!" he yelled. "Over here!" "Len?! Don't get involved!" Rin was still knelt on the ground, tugging at his vest. He ignored her and continued to wave her down. The girl saw him and started to slow down. She glanced behind her when she came to a full stop, and started walking toward him backwards. She turned and ran. "You need help?" he called. "Hey!" She merely stared at him. "Does she even speak?" he said, tilting his down to Rin. The girl turned back to the people chasing after her, who had formed a half circle around her with about 7 of them. She didn't move. "Now, Miku," one of the men said "Be a good girl and come back to the lab" he ordered. "Miku" stood her ground. "Disobeying, eh?" he said. There was something in his hand... It was like a thick, black and blue two-pronged fork. Between the two prongs, blue electricity shot out one and greeted the other, the order was random. Len knew he had to do something. Wether Rin liked it or not.
Chapter 2
Len stepped up beside Miku, Rin following, clutching the back of his jacket. "What's going on?" he said firmly. That was something their leader would say, probably made him just sound stupid. Miku stared in disbelief. The other men stared at him too. "Get out of here, boy. Your irrelevant to the situation" one of them ordered. Len stayed silent. "Hey!" Rin spoke up. "You can't talk to my brother like that!" she stepped out from behind him. "Only I can!" probably the most common thing for a sister to say. The man didn't looked threatened, more like he was taking it as a joke. He stepped out of his attack pose and stood straight again. "Fine," he said "I don't want to hurt you children. It would draw to much attention. I'll give little Miku one week to decide what to do. If you don't come to the lab by then, we'll hunt you- all three of you- down" he threatened. Len didn't so much as blink. The others dispersed into the alley, Len watching until they were completely out of sight. "Anywa-" in the middle of his speech, Miku swung at him. He ducked, tugging Rin with him. "Hey!" He yelled, standing up again. This time she kicked at him. "Lady, I just saved your life!" He said, grabbing hold of her wrist. She tried to pull it away. "I can take care of myself!" she said. Finally. "Well, I didn't know-" "Why don't you humans just leave us alone, and keep out of other's business!" she said, yanking her hand away. "Can I at least get a thank you?" "I didn't need you, so I didn't need that. Why would I need to thank you if I didn't need it?" she said, her beautiful blue gaze hardening. "Well, I thought-" "What? I was imperfect? I needed assistance? I'm not! I don't! I'm perfectly able to fit in, so I don't need you!" she stormed off. Rin was watching, startled, still holding onto his jacket. "Hey, wait!" he said. Miku stopped in her tracks, but didn't turn to face him. "You said humans" "So? What's it to you?" she replied coldly. "So... does that mean your not one?" he asked curiously. She was silent for a minute, and close to a whisper, she mumbled "What does it matter... Programs don't need anybody anyway..." Program??? "Well... does that mean your alone?" Len said. Miku finally turned to face him, the hardness in her gaze had vanished, all that was left was sadness. "...Yes..." she said. "Well..." Len turned to Rin. She tipped her head. "Want a sister?" he smiled. Rin smiled too and nodded. "Miku," he turned back to her. "Wanna come stay with us?"
Chapter 3
Miku sat down on the couch. Len stepped into the kitchen and called her over the bar. "Do you want something to eat? I mean, if you do..." he said, searching through the covers. "Yeah, I eat" Miku said "I have the appetite, emotion, and brain of human... It's just... It's all in a hard drive. I was created at 15, no younger childhood experiences..." she sighed. "Ah..." Len said. Rin locked the front door quietly and sat down across from Miku. "So..." she said. She tapped her knee and looked around the room.
