I shall start off by asking this: have you ever done something nice for someone from which you had nothing to gain? We all have right? Wrong. Selflessness does not exist. We do these deeds asking for nothing worldy in return, but we are doing them in hopes of gaining a sense of pride and self-worth. In some cases, we do these deeds because it is supposedly "the right thing to do", and we hope to garner respect by seemingly caring for others. Everyone does everything for a reason, and every action has a reaction. If you were to tell me different, you'd be lying. For example, think of the last time you did something "selfless" for someone. Did you recall a feeling of self-respect afterward? Of course you did. If you hadn't anticipated recieving this reward, you wouldn't have done it.
This is, in no way, a liscence to stop giving. It is, however, a message to those who swear that they are being totally selfless. After all, if you had nothing to gain, you wouldn't do it.
