Woo
Gwenivere sat at her window and looked out into the courtyard. She was bored. Why could she not be allowed to go on any of the adventures that Arthur went on? He always claimed it was because she meant to much to him. If these adventures were so dangerous, then why was he allowed to go? She occasionally was able to spend time with Merlin when he did not go on one of the adventures. Unfortunately he had gone this time.
She started to turn away from her window when light glistened into the corner of her eye. She turned the rest of the way around and noticed a knight walking into the courtyard. She grinned and leaned out the window and yelled. "Sir knight!"
He looked up at her. She could tell nothing about him due to his helm. She motioned her hand and waved him toward her. When he came closer, she yelled again. "What is your name?"
He removed his helm and responded. "I am Sir Lancelot, your highness."
She smiled down at him, despite the fact he could not tell. "Well Sir Lancelot, what is your mission?"
He looked at her confusedly. "I have not been given a mission yet. I was on my way to do so."
She grinned to herself. This was her chance. "Well Lancelot, your plans have changed. I will give you your mission. Stay there and I will be down within five minutes."
He was about to respond, but she had already left. He was tempted to leave too, but not knowing who she was he dared not to.
Gwenivere made her way down the stairs and out the door. She looked around a moment and found the man she was looking for.
¥
Lancelot watched as a beautiful young female ran out the door and to him. She appeared to be a year or two older than he was. He bowed to her. "My lady, it is a pleasure to see you face to face."
She smiled at him. "I am sure it is. Come, I have the first of your missions."
She took his arm and started to walk. "No offense my lady, but who are you to give me a mission?"
She stopped and looked at him sternly. "Do you dare speak such a way to a nobleman's daughter?"
He blinked and shook his head. "Of course not my lady. I did not know."
She smiled. "It is ok. This time. But enough of calling me 'my lady'. It would get old fast. I plan to make use of you all afternoon. So you will call me Gwen."
He stared at her in confusion. "Yes my la... Gwen."
She smiled at his mistake. Perhaps him calling her 'My Gwen' might not be so bad. "Come, you must lead me to your room."
He stared at her in shock. "My room? Why would you want to go there?"
She chuckled a little. "I cannot have you walking around with me all afternoon in that armor."
¥
She refused to look away when he changed tunics. He blushed and looked away himself. She spoke to him mockingly. "What? Did you not have sisters when growing up?"
He shook his head. "No, I was an only child."
She smiled a little. "Well only child, today you will have a sister."
He nodded and finished putting his tunic on. "Yes Gwen."
She grabbed his arm and lead him toward the door. "While we are speaking of this, how old are you?"
He bit his lip. "I am seventeen my... Gwen."
She smiled at his mistake again. "Seventeen? You seem too young to be a knight."
He looked at her in astonishment. "I assure you I am one!"
She nodded. "I was not questioning you about that. I just find it odd that someone so young would choose to be a knight. I am two years older than you and I still am not ready to die for anyone but myself."
He stared at her in disbelief. "But why would a lady such as yourself ever have to die for someone else?"
She smiled and tugged at his arm. "Enough of this. I want to go to the forest and play."
He blinked at her. "Play?"
She nodded. "Yes, play."
He stared at her in disbelief once again. "But are we not too old to play?"
She hit his arm lightly. "Now you sound much older than you are!" She thought for a moment. "Do you have any money?"
He blinked a moment. "I have a few coins. What does my... err Gwen want?"
She grinned at him. "I want you to buy us a ball!"
He stopped and looked at her. "You want a knight to buy a ball?"
She nodded. "Exactly. No one will know you are a knight. And if it helps, you can tell the merchant it is for your sister."
He sighed and nodded. "Yes Gwen."
¥
Gwenivere watched Lancelot as he purchased the ball. She was amazed at how nervous he acted. She would have to change that.

After Lancelot had the ball, he walked toward Gwenivere. When he was almost halfway there, two playing boys ran into him and knocked him over. As he started to get up, one of the boys grabbed the ball and started to run with it it. Unfortunately for him Gwenivere had moved closer and was able to grab him by the collar of his tunic.
The boy whimpered and tried to get away. "Come on lady, let me go!"
She shook her head and examined him. He was obviously poor and most likely was unable to get a ball for himself. A planned began to form in her mind, "What do you plan to do with that ball?"
He glared at her. "Take it home and play with it, of course!"
She shook her head again. "But the ball is not yours."
He shrugged. "So what? It is mine now."
She continued with her plan. "Do you realize who the man you took the ball from is?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Obviously some nobleman's son. He can afford another."
She sighed and shook her head. "Actually he is a knight and he bought that ball for me."
He looked over at Lancelot who was holding the other boy by the shoulder. "Him? A knight? Yeah right. Next thing you know you will be telling me you are a queen."
She smiled a moment. "What makes you think I might not be?"
The boy looked at her a moment. "Well, you are beautiful enough. But queens dress more expensively and sit in castles all day being waited upon by servants."
She continued smiling at him. Unfortunately he was right. If not for her defiant personality, she would be doing what the boy described at this moment. "Okay, I have a bargain to make to you. If you and your friend will agree escort my friend and myself around for awhile, you may keep the ball."
The boy's eyes lit up and he nodded. "Of course lady. It would be my pleasure to escort you."
She smiled and took the ball while he was distracted. She threw it to Lancelot, who barely caught it. The boy began to protest and then she placed her finger on his lips. "Shh. You may have the ball after you have performed your duties."
She took the boy's hand and motioned for Lancelot and the other boy to continue on.

¥
Eventually the group wound up in the forest. Gwenivere looked at some fallen branches and grinned to herself. She motioned for Lancelot and he obediently came to her. She smiled at him and then motioned at the sticks. "Sir knight, do you believe you could teach these future knights?"
He began to protest but realized he would regret it if he did so. Instead he nodded and picked one of the branches up. "Yes my lady, I believe I can."
She chose not to correct him this time. If was best if the boys did not learn of her name. While Lancelot was busy play fighting with the boys, she began to construct a crown for herself out of some flowers.
Once the crown was finished, she placed it upon her head and stopped the play fighting. The boys began to complain, but noticed how queenly she looked. They both bowed and the leader of the two spoke. "Your highness, how may we be of service to you?"
She smiled down at them. If only they knew the truth of their words. "Will you two swear your loyalty to me?"
They both nodded and spoke together. "Yes your highness."
She continued smiling. "Do you also swear to protect the innocent and to defend what is right?"
They both stared up at her in awe and nodded again. "Yes your highness, we do."
She smiled more and motioned for them to stand. "You two are now my honorary knights and will serve me whenever I call upon you."
They both stared at her in awe, unable to speak.
She gently patted their heads. "What shall I call my new knights?"
