Chapter Two:

Anjay got to school with too much time on her hands. As usual her step-mom had underestimated her children, and predicted them to be late. “Why didn’t I see this happening?” Anjay asked herself as she waited in the cold morning air for the doors to open. It was barely fall and she could already see her breath whenever she exhaled. Anjay rubbed her hands together in a feeble attempt at warmth. “Thank god it’s Friday” she exclaimed over and over again. Thinking the more times she said it, the more likely it would be for it to be true for once. Finally the early bell rang and the doors to the unwelcoming prison opened themselves up to her. After retrieving the necessary torture equipment from her locker, Anjay allowed herself to roam the halls for a while. She took careful note of all new romances, and was sure to stay away from the girls bathroom. She just wasn’t in the mood for a pounding today. “Thank god it’s Friday” she continued to murmur to herself. She spent extra time at the breakfast tables that the school had, even though very few people ever had breakfast at school, or at all. She was always looking on from somewhere around there. She had to keep the cliques in line. The populars where being bitchy preps, no surprise there. The jocks where being total jack asses. The goths were being moody as always. And all the sub-clicks were trying to act as though they belonged somewhere else more important. Nothing ever changed in this parallel universe they called school. Just like Anjay could never find where she belonged. Then, she saw them, the most important click, the drama kids, and the other music groups (they were sort of like the roadies to a band). They weren’t popular, but they were real life celebrities in this pathetic excuse for a school. Anjay looked at them with envy, thinking how it must feel to know that you always belong somewhere, instead of nowhere. All of a sudden, she realized the time and ran to her first class. The lost daydream a shattering of her hopes, Anjay wanted nothing more then to belong.
Anjay went blindly through her classes, not paying attention to a single thing anyone said. She doodled in her sketch book as always, but was less careful about hiding it in sixth period math. Mr. Black, who was an artist by nature anyway, caught her but was okay with her doodling, if she added math and calculations to it. She was even slightly interested in it, because it sounded like it would change her pictures into more then mere doodles, into true art. As she was leaving in a rush to get to seventh period music, green pass in hand, she realized that math alone wouldn’t help her out. She had no talent of any sort, unless you count not fitting in as a talent. She lingered a little, knowing that with her late pass she would be admitted without questions. No one questioned Mr. Blacks passes, but she soon grew tired of the halls, and she liked music class anyway. Her favorite part wasn’t getting to sit by the ninth grade god Alexander though, no, it was the actual class however odd it seemed. Of course, sitting by Alex was a definite perk, he was very musically gifted. Well, she strode into the room in a hurry, and she almost knocked down one of the Clowns standing with his face to the wall. It was Taylor, he was always goofing off, and was treated as a child quite often. Anjay handed Ms. Peters the note and started for her seat, but was stopped mid stride. “Anjay? Have you forgotten that you need to sing for us today?” Ms. Peters asked. Then it hit her, today she was to sing her favorite song to sing for the class, everyone had to do it, and she was the last one left. She took a deep breath and slowly pivoted on her heels. She looked at Ms. Peters with her large steely eyes. Ms. Peters looked back sympathetically and said “You have to do it Anjay.” Her voice was firm, but kind and gentle, so Anjay took another deep deep breath, and turned to face the class. Looking at the class, Anjays mind went blank, she couldn’t remember what she was doing, then she knew what song she wanted to sing. “Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play?” her voice carried the words throughout the room, her eyes closed as she concentrated. Anjay pictured the view from her room as she sang, thinking of how the dawn and dusk made her feel. When the note of the final Sunrise Sunset chorus drifted into nothingness, she opened her eyes and realized they were all looking at her. She then noticed that it was drop dead silent in the room, not even a sound from the preps. ‘Oh s**t!’ she thought, ‘ I’m even horrible at this! I should have known to stay home today, and every other day of the rest of my life! I can’t believe how bad I am!’ Her thoughts continued like this for a while, until, suddenly there was a noise. After what had seemed like forever, but was more like seven seconds, Alex started to clap, really slowly at first. The rest of the class soon joined in, and Alex was on his feet by the end clapping wildly, the pandemonium deafening. Anjay just stood looking at them all with a blank expression on her face. Ms. Peters came over to her and whispered, “I’d like to see you after class.” Anjay went to her seat awestruck and was in a daze the rest of the class. Finally the bell rang and she walked up to Ms. Peters desk. Ms. Peters looked up and asked, “What class do you have next Anjay?” “Ummm…Study hall.” was the reply. “Good, you’ll be staying here next period Ms. Peters said. It wasn’t a question, it was a simple statement. Anjay had no choice in the matter, so she calmly went back to her seat and started to wait.

So this is what I've got for you my chickies! I hope you enjoy it! I'll be back with more soon....hopefully.
