Okay, I'd like to title this piece:
"How Text Talk and Web 2.0 are Slowing down the Progress of Mankind."

Everyone's heard the tragic stories about how some punkbitch got abducted my some ***** on myspace... And the next time I hear about one, I'm going to think of this note and smile. The stories are increasingly common. Why is this a rising trend?

The answer is Web 2.0, the new version of the internet designed so everyone can have a pretty little corner of the internet solely designated to getting their lives, information, and opinions out to everyone else.

Right about now, looking at this, one would immediately assume that I'm being a complete hypocrite for having this Gaia journal, as well as a facebook account. True, I'm doing the exact opposite of what I'm recommending, but that's because I have no real 'life' thing... and because I have a slight working knowledge of the internet. No, I do not claim to be the '1337 haxxor,' so if you're going to flame me for that comment, then gtfo of my journal.

But the second you get some preteen behind the keyboard who has no idea how to appreciate or work the internet aside from posting pictures of themselves in revealing tops and/or bathing suits and chat it up with their friends... guess what? ***** bait! Sure, you changed your city so it looks like your across the state, so you're pretty much a phucking genius, huh? Well, your friends are all talking about what a great day you guys spent at the mall, and they're all from your hometown, so the connection is EASILY made. The best thing to do in my opinion? If you don't realize that people can find where you live to within a two-house block JUST due to the things on your web 2.0 page, you should delete your page... because no one looks at it but you and the people who want to abduct you anyways... that or go to the retarded side of the internet (with padded walls.) And how ever shall you get the latest gossip? Well... there's this ancient relic most of you may have happened upon in your history classes called the telephone. Use it.

Second, text talk. Why? That's the real question. Yes, you want to save a cent for leaving those seven letters out of your text message, but what's the point? All that's occurring is that English is requiring translation amongst itself. Yes, there was a drunken party, during which you saw a commercial played featuring a girl talking in text abbreviations... that doesn't mean it's funny when you do it. If you've ever said something, even as small as "lol" in public, go home and cut your tongue out, for a lifetime of pain is NOTHING compared to the punishment you're giving to the English language, plus you may actually learn something by actually listening to the rest of the world annunciate.

Rant over. Happy Abductions!
