Se'rox sat in the cozy chair across from Lilah, and sipped her warm tea. The stuff was nice, actually. She could tell the herbs had been grown in good ground, and the water was deep groundwater. Probably well water.
Lilah had been talking for some time now. A while ago, the man who had been outside came in with the little toddler, who Lilah pointed upstairs to. The toddler practically bounced up the stairs, and while Se'rox lost sight of her after two steps and she knew Lilah couldn't see her since she started up the stairs, it was interesting that Lilah still seemed to be looking that way, until the sound of a door closing could be heard. Then the man came into the kitchen nook, and kissed Lilah's cheek, and then went into another room, out of Se'rox's view.
Since then, Lilah had been talking of small things, seemingly unimportant things, like the weather, the nice house they had, and how interesting it was to be a mother. Se'rox was listening, but none of it seemed particularly important. She was starting to think she should go home.
"... and I that's why I think you are different." Lilah said, and sipped her tea calmly.
Se'rox had been thinking of other things, and had to pause to recall what Lilah had just said. Something about her knowing about all the races of the universe, or some other odd thing.
"Lilah. I believe I am different. But I do not think it is because you haven't seen the like of me before. I am different because I am blind, and can see through feeling the ground. You figured that out already. That's all it is." Se'rox said. She believed it was true.
"Then why...?" Lilah sighed. "You don't seem to understand. I know you are different, and it's not just because of that gift. I know you don't believe me when I tell you that I truly do know of all the races of the universe. It seems impossible, especially to those of us who either have traveled space or understand there are other worlds like Gaia out there. But I do. And I am telling you, you are different. New. Whatever you are, you are not human, though you look it. And you are certainly special." Lilah sighed.
Se'rox shrugged. "If you say so. I am not denying it. I don't know for sure, either. I just don't think it is the most likely answer."
Lilah shook her head.
"Well, we can try to run some tests, try to figure it out. You did mention you have memories only spanning about two or three weeks? I... don't sense it to be amnesia. But perhaps we can run some diagnostic tests? How do you feel about that?" Lilah asked.
Se'rox cocked her head to the side. "I feel fine. I already told you that." she said, not sure why Lilah would ask the same question twice.
Lilah smiled. "I know you said you were not hurt, nor hungry, nor physically unwell. But how do you feel?" she asked. "Are you worried? Angry? Sad? Happy?" these suggestions came further apart as Lilah saw an odd, twisted look cross Se'rox's face. "Annoyed?"
"No." Se'rox answered, calmly as usual.
"Alright then. Let's go to the lab and-"
"No. No. You don't understand." Se'rox interrupted. The look crossing her face was one of an odd realization. "You can't understand. I have no feelings. About anything. No emotion. I never have."
Lilah sat across from Se'rox, her mouth slightly open in surprise, looking at the girl across from her. No wonder she had a gray aura. No wonder she seemed so different. Lilah shook her head. This girl was a new thing, all right. And she would love to study her if it were for those reasons only. But there was a deeper concern there, for Lilah. Something, well, a few things, that she could not shake. Two of the most prominent things were that odd green forehead jewel, and the familiar shape of Se'rox's eyes. If not for those, Lilah might have been less pushy. But no. Those things ensured that Lilah had to know more. Much more.
