What Doesn't Kill You Ends Up Making Out With You
The Archer of Two is not on the mission. this is a fact. Ragnhild knows such a thing cannot be refuted. It is only her, her kin, and their Lord of Sevens. So why is it that a Sniper is following them in this world of sand and harsh winds? Casting warning glances in its direction gets her nothing but her master sneering. "One of Xigbar's. It's undoubtedly as deranged as its master." Such a dismissive statement puts her at ease, and Ragnhild thinks no more of the Snipers that day.
Except it continues to follow her.
Ragnhild cannot understand it, especially when she stands among her sisters and brothers. There is such a perfect uniformity among them; how does she stand out? How can she be a target? She'd ponder how their reputation does not protect her, but she knows of the Snipers; they are as brazen as their leader, and perhaps just as mad. Other cultures might call this 'bravery', but Ragnhild is rather sure this is not the case. Plagued by questions she does not have the means to answer, she decides that the best course of action is the simplest. If she is of interest, then she will be uninteresting and ignore the Sniper. It cannot be hard.
Unfortunately, the Sniper's plan B happens to exist. To Ragnhild's aggravation, the Sniper has the pure gall to invade her space. They are the Archer's kin indeed.
It happens when she is on shepherding duty in the Land of Dragons. Ragnhild's purpose is simplicity incarnate: some wish to evade the hot and clutching claws of the Heartless, an attempt she crushes ruthlessly. As a rich noble scrambles away after slamming into her broad chest, a light weight settles on one of her shoulders. It is only due to a strong nerve and willpower that Ragnhild does not accidentally swing her mighty sword and slice the Sniper in half. She will later wonder if she would not want to regret.
A Lesser's face is incapable of expression, yet the Sniper somehow gives off the impression of leering. Ooooh, nice job, Raggie Doo! it(she) calls in a feminine voice.
Raggie Doo? Ragnhild twitches. If tonight were only a full moon... That was not my name.
But it's so much cuter!
This time, Ragnhild doesn't resist the partially remembered urge to reach over her shoulder in an attempt to crush her tag-along. Snipers, however, are quick, and her massive fingers close over shadow wisps. From a nearby roof, the Sniper waves her gun in farewell. The Captain calls me! she informs Ragnhild. Remember my name when I come to visit again, Raggie Doo! I'm Luise.
I don't care, Ragnhild complains, but only darkness, fire, and the night sky hear her aggravation.
Try as she might, Ragnhild cannot help but recall the name on their next meeting, which occurs in Twilight Town. She just sighs. Leave me ALONE, Luise.
The Sniper in question just does an odd sort of excited hop-hop-from-foot-to-foot dance. Ragnhild despairingly wishes Luise would stop being so memorable. You rememberrrred.[/] As if that's some sort of invitation, the Sniper hops up to perch on her shoulder.
Ragnhild glares at her, or at least tries to. It's rather unsuccessful, but not for lack of trying. Before she can strike up an argument, Luise's crossbow glows sharp bloodstain-in-snow pink and soon, half a dozen Heartless are vanishing into smoke. The Berskerer pauses to reconsider her words.
...If you continue to do that, I shall not take you skull and repeatedly smash you against stone.
Luise perks up. We're making progress!
