"Wow that girls so small, she's like a grade school kid." "Hey you don't know her? That's Rayna, she's in our class. I can't believe you've never noticed such a small person in a class full of tall people, wow" ... Yes, this was usually the response people would say when they saw Rayna Sites, the shortest girl in the Yokuno High. Many mistake her for a grade school student like that one girl said, and others don't even know that she exists. If you were to ask anyone about her, not a single person, other than a teacher, would say they knew of her.
Rayna was around when this happened too. Every single moment of everyday, always having to do with 'short this and short that'. When did size ever count? Sure it counts in certain... areas... but wasn't it rude to say to a girl? Rayna thought so, or at least, showed it on her face. She walked around as though someone near and dear to her had died every minute that she was breathing. Crowds seemed to scare her, like a small mouse on the sidewalk of a New York street. She dodged and allowed people to push her around. When on a subway, someone would enable her to leave the platform, due to her smallness and she would miss her stop. Yes, Rayna Sites was a small, sad girl who just needed to find her place in the world.
But if the height of her wasn't enough, Rayna was a girl that... saw things. It wasn't so much ghosts, it was more like beings, magical beings, but why beings? Why couldn't she just see what was in front of her without this strangeness? What was she thinking at times like these? What indeed... perhaps we should take a look into the young life of Rayna Sites?
Rain, it fell from the sky huh? Then why are there floating black... things... there too? thought a small girl, looking out the window of Yokuno High from the back of a classroom, the teacher in the front reading from a text book and calling of people to answer when he thought they weren't paying attention. The small girl stared outside uncontrolably, her eyes following something that wasn't there. She was small, very small, her short brown hair hardly touching her shoulders. Her eyes were brown and she looked average, some might even say plain, but if she was more than that, it would be too much.
"Ms. Sites, do you intend to ignore me one more time? I know you haven't been here the last few days, for please, focus!" the teacher said from the front, the older man with glasses, pushing the textbook up more promptly and centering his glasses on his face. Rayna sunk down in her deat and hid behind her book, not responding verbally. The teacher sighed loudly and went back to lecturing.
'But I wasn't absent. I was here the whole time... he just didn't see my hand...' Rayna thought with sadness on her face, as she lowerd her head even more. The rain fell down harder and faster, more heads leaning towards it as the teacher assigned in class work, which seemed to take forever.
