Ice
[Ice]

“This just in, a large block of ice seeming to hold a female inside has been found in northern Alaska, Theresa Jones is on the case.”

“Thanks Tom. This is Theresa Jones live from Kotzebue, Alaska where a man going ice fishing caught more than he could handle.” The camera turned then to the large block of ice, twice the size of any man, but inside directly center hovered a female, eyes closed, hair splayed about her face as if suspended in water. Her hands lay together in a prayer, feet laying one atop the other, completely bare from head to toe. “Mr. David Aluski was fishing near the shore when this large block of ice bounced up, having been loosened from deep under the water from what looks to be hundreds of years.” The camera turned to a large man, confused but proud with his discovery. “Ice is always just floating around, so I didn’t think nothing of it, until my wife pointed out seeing something in it. We hooked it to the truck and pulled it out, and true enough, there was that girl in it.” The camera turned back to the female reporter who smiled brightly, “scientists have paid Mr. Aluski and unknown amount as of right now to take the ice and remove the female to hopefully study her. More in this case in time.”

The news report about the girl trapped in the ice had traveled far across the globe, hitting the corners of every country, everyone buzzing about the ice girl. But there was one man that wasn’t happy to see such a thing, and he traveled from his home in Rome to the United States to get his word in about it. The man was clad in long blue robes, a holy man, holding a large book against his chest while he was escorted into the large lab by a few soldiers. “Sir, this man says he knows something about the girl,” one spoke up, the man who was obviously in charge turning, staring at him before nodding, excusing the guards. Soon the holy man stepped forth, “Abraham Lim, general.. I believe that this ice girl that has fallen in your laps is a sign.” The general arched a brow, gesturing for the man to come closer, “a sign of what?”

Abraham lied the book down on a large metal table, flipping through it’s pages, stopping upon one where it showed a pale female with long dark hair, ice at her fingertips. “They call her Eira, it means Ice goddess. Every thousand years it is said that the gods place a judgment over the earth, sending down angels and demons of their own to trick people, test them, lure them into evil. And if we pass, our lives are saved..” the General looked at the picture before looking to the holy man again, “and if we don’t?” The man swallowed hard, looking to the large block of ice with the female inside, “they send Eira. She brings the end of days. Freezing anything she touches, bringing our world into a second ice age.” The General laughed, “we’ve lived through an ice age once before, we can do it again.” The holy man shook his head, “not like this.. That last one was simply a warning, this one will have people’s lung freezing with a single breath, water never to be liquid again, all the heaters in the world won’t stop this from coming..”

The General narrowed his eyes, “I’m sick of listening to your religious babble. There’s no way that one chick can live in ice for a thousand years and then simply come back to life like that!” He turned from the man at the table, only to be chased by him, “general, you need to be careful! You need to find some way to warn the people, maybe the gods will give us a second chance!” The man turned again, grabbing the holy man by his robes, glaring him down, “warn people of what? Some ice fairy is gonna freeze the earth over? I don’t think so… privates! Get this man out of my sight!” Two soldiers came over, grabbing the man and his book, dragging him out while he continued to shout and plea with the man in charge. “Alright! Chip that thing down and get me that body!” the man snapped, the workers grabbing their power tools and starting on breaking the ice open. After hours of work, pounding, hammering, drilling, even burning, still there wasn’t even a scratch in the large block of ice.

Hours turned into days and still there was nothing, the General finding himself almost worried that the babbling holy man might have been right. It wasn’t long before he called the man up again and began to question him. “How long exactly do we have until she’s supposed to come back?” he questioned, Abraham opening the book and flipping through the pages once more. “After she arises from her resting place, we’ve until the next full moon,” he stated, looking up, “two more days..” “Then we’re going to lock her up in a place that she won’t be able to get to the people..”

The two days had passed and a large case of bulletproof glass was built up and around the block of ice, metal bars holding it up at the corners, the General smiling at the work. “Not even a god can get through this..” he stated, looking at the other that stared at the large block with worry. And then, they waited, counting the hours until the sun set and the moon rose to it’s fullest. On this night people would stand in awe at the beauty of the moon, how it had almost tripled in size, the color a bright blue that seemed almost blinding. And once the clock struck midnight, the general found himself surprised that he could see his own breath when he let out a huff of air. Abraham looked to the man before back at the case, staring as the ice began to crack, falling away and shattering on the ground like glass. A soft glow emitted from the case, starting in the center of the block of ice, spreading to the shape of the female while the case itself began to frost over from the inside. When all the ice fell away, there stood only the girl, long white ribbons covering her body, black hair framing her perfect pale face, bright blue eyes snapping open to stare at the two.

Slowly she stepped down from the small pedestal of ice, every step with her bare feet leaving the ground frosted over, moving closer to the glass where the two men stared at her. Blinking slowly she stopped, reaching up a hand and touching the glass softly. Almost instantly it was all covered in the frost, blocking her from view of the men, the general beginning to panic. That was before the glass shattered, steel bars falling to the ground, shards of frozen glass shattering on the ground, and in the center of it stood the female, looking at both men silently, watching as the general let out a shaky visible breath at the sudden chill in the air. Her eyes were then set on the holy man who seemed in awe at the female, smiling faintly to him before holding out her hand. Fingers graced his cheek and instantly his skin turned blue, giving a gasp before his body froze solid, eyes wide. With a light push he tipped over, falling to the ground and shattering, letting the book fall open to the page with her picture on it. Tipping her head to the side she stared, a soft laugh escaping her lips, turning her attention to the general. “Aren’t you going to run?” she cooed, voice beautiful, melodic, angelic, a true goddess among the people.

She leaned up then to the general, his lips parted as if he were going to speak, but his words were cut short when she blew a soft breath down his throat. His eyes went wide, watering before icing over and his body stilling, frozen from the inside out. Slowly she began to make her way out of the building, freezing everything with every step she took, making her way towards the outside world. There was only one thing that could stop her from icing the planet over as the gods asked, the one that had been sent to protect it by the very gods. The keeper of flames. Sentenced to life upon earth for crimes in the heavens, only they could keep her from destroying the planet, but would they even try? Stepping from the building she realized that she was still up in Alaska, giving a faint smile, what a place to start her process.
