“Shut up will you? I hear something..”

Two men in armor stopped in their walk around the large building, looking around, weapons up and ready. “Man, you’re going crazy, this job is getting to you..” the other stated, patting him on the back before his hand was slapped away. “No! I swear to god I heard something,” he stated, going silent at the sound of buzzing. The two pairs of eyes turned to look at the source of the sound, a small robotic car that drove over the broken rubble and trash towards them, the men laughing some. “Damn, it’s nothing but a kid’s toy. You need to relax more.” The car continued forward, the men giving it no mind until a light beeping sounded, both sets of eyes looking at the flashing red light, noticing only then the C4 that had been attached. “Oh my god, run!” The words came out, but bodies weren’t quick enough to react, the toy exploded and the men were flown back, skin charred and bodies burnt, no life evident in them. Out from the shadows stepped the controller behind the small car, a young female, body clad in strange clothing that only the ‘Rebels’ of this future wore. Her lips curled in a grin at the sight, hands on her hips, “easy.”

The year is 2258, after the fourth World War life had become much more dangerous, the police force had doubled, laying in line a new set of rules, punishing those that dared to break them with either physical harm or even death. As usual, there were those that dared to go against the government’s rules, those people were known as Rebels. The most well known was Dahlia, known to the rest Simply as D, she wasn’t the leader of the Rebels, but she was a valuable thing to have. Her mind worked differently than everyone else’s, she saw things not like you or I do, instead of seeing a human as such, she would only see it as a collection of smaller bits, a working machine instead of an actual life. She was, as what some would call her, a genius, able to build and create whatever her mind willed, using such a powerful gift not to help the humans around her, but to steal from them and give it all to her boss, whoever that might have been at the moment.

This was she.

The girl stepped to the bodies, nudging a leg with her boot, grinning, “c’mon boys, lets get this over with.” The call over her shoulder invited three other figures, all moving smoothly, all made of metal. Machines that she had built to keep her company, the robots that helped her, refusing to let any human ever follow her, thinking they would only get in the way. To her, humans were pathetic creatures, a waste of flesh and bones, nothing more than something that would get in her way. So she relied on the machines, the things that she built to keep her company, to help her when she needed it. Right now her mission wasn’t so simple, a jewel heist, sneak into the museum and snag what was called the Earth Diamond, a special gem with a golden tint to it, one of only a few ever found in existence. She didn’t know what the leader wanted with it, whether it was for it’s high value and street price, or for the powers it was said to hold. Whatever it was she didn’t care, the boss was giving her a handsome reward for it so she wasn’t going to hesitate.

Pulling the gun from her hip she aimed up, firing the hook at the tip up into the air and grabbing the ledge of the roof. The rope that followed it dangled down, she grabbing it and giving a few good tugs. With a grin she began her assent up the side of the building, pulling herself up with the rope while she walked along the wall. The robots below her began up when she gave a signal that she had reached the roof, the last pulling the rope up with it when they all reached the top. It was there that she got to work, opening the metal box that fed wires through all of the building, opening some of the wires to connect them with her electronics. “I’ve got visual,” she stated when a small screen blinked to life on her wrist. She grinned, looking up at the human-like face of her most recent of creations, “it’s show time.” With a nod the machine shifted back, standing twice as tall as the girl, face the only part of it’s robotic body that seemed human at all. The rest was an interlocking of metal and gears, moving smoothly while it grabbed her and pulled her onto it’s back. With a simple tug it had pulled the grate from the cover of the ventilation shaft, falling down into it, using the walls around it to keep it’s decent inside slow and silent. Just before it hit the bottom it leaned down, letting the girl drop inside before it fell down silently.

They moved beside each other while they slipped through the halls, the creature killing anyone they met quickly and soundlessly, making their way to the large room where the gem was being held. Upon entering it she held up a hand, stopping the machine, “keep watch, if anyone comes, kill them without hesitation.” It had nodded and turned it’s back, letting her move to the safe and kneel before it. She had drilled a few holes into it, finding it’s weak spot and slipping in a camera to see what she was going to have to snip and interlock. After a few more moments the safe clicked and opened, but almost immediately an alarm sounded. “s**t!” she snapped, moving inside the safe and grabbing the rock, throwing it into the sack at her hip before turning and running out of the safe. A light blinded her and the robot that stood guard let it’s arm fold into a gun and began firing down the hall and the police that fired back. “Don’t worry about them! Let’s go go go!!” she shouted, jumping onto the machine’s back and letting it pull her up and through the vents again. By the time they reached the top the building was surrounded, the two other machines that waited had already set up their escape.

D moved to the smaller of the robots, opening it’s chest cavity and moving a few wires. After pulling a chip it’s eyes darkened, going limp before she connected a few more wires and the robot began beeping. With a gentle push it had fallen down, hitting a vehicle and causing a massive explosion that shook the building itself. With the distraction she had climbed onto the back of the largest of the machines, the other hooking to it’s front, just before it let out a cry and leapt to the other building with ease. It had jumped from building to building only a few more times before sliding down and running through the alleyways. Dropping into a manhole a distance from the museum the machine continued through the sewers, turning corners and slipping into a large hole in the wall. A little while longer down the path and she met with a man clad in armor, a large gun pointed at her, eyes narrowed. “The password,” he stated, she slipping down from the back of the robot and stepping to him to whisper the phrase into his ear. He nodded and allowed for her and the machines to pass him, led into a large building that had been underground for god knows how long. The doors were open and she was allowed inside, staring face to face with the man who sat in his throne, grinning when he saw the girl. “Ah, my favorite little thief,” he cooed, holding out his hand. A man stepped forward, opening a case filled with nicely wrapped bills, she licking her lips before stepping forward and removing the gem from the pouch on her hip. When it was in the man’s hand she grabbed the case of money and stepped back out of the room, the machines following while she made her way out.

The man had snapped his fingers though, a shockwave sent through the air, crippling the robots while she turned sharply only to have the butt of the gun smashed against her head. Everything had gone black while she crumbled to the ground, seeing only the faces of the men that surrounded her before she was unconscious. When D woke she found that all her weapons had been stripped away, machines lost, clothing torn and dirty. “That b*****d!” she shouted, pulling herself up and out of the dumpster she had been tossed in, limping out of the alley and towards the only place she knew it was safe, knowing she would be in trouble if anyone found her she turned to one person. A dear friend of her’s from her younger years, the only human she could stand, the man she had lost contact with when he had joined the police force. Knocking on the door she leaned her forehead against it, eyes closed while her knees crumbled and she passed out against the door and step.
